Gem slide still not operational

Oh and Norwegian customer service lies to you when you call to ask them. I had a customer rep Saturday tell me it was fixed and to not believe everything I read on Cruise Critic and the slide has been working since the last cruise. After 35 cruises and this being the second after 13 years on Norwegian, never again. They did not offer to remedy the situation in any way. I even offered to pay the difference and move my reservations to another one of their ships. " No mam, that will still incur a penalty for cancelling within the time frame." Really, how about your false advertisement!!!

We received an email from NCL regarding the slide and they said that it is closed indefinitely. Not looking good for our upcoming cruise...

Very sad news :( I know the slide is not important for many but for us it was. We chose Gem as it had a slide and the others ship options we looked at did not have. This was not our most favourite route but as we have a child who is just at the age of loving a water slide we thought - oh well, let's be nice parents and let our child enjoy much.

I am sure we will have a nice cruise anyway but yes it is a shame the slide is not operational. :( ´For sure had we known this prior to the cancellation cut off date we would have however switched cruises.

What gets us is that they never even told anyone. If it wasn't for this site we never would have known. If we got an email saying sorry or a letter letting us know, things might be different, but to keep it a secret and just wait for everyone to get on and said Oops! is what's making this so terrible.

We might be with you in checking out from Norwegian after this. We had a good run but after seeing how they are starting to treat their employees like garbage and screwing up some big features on this ships, there are other choices as to where we can spend out money.

We'll still have fun and make the most of the cruise, I am sure it will be a great time in two weeks, but if they don't care to keep me informed then we dont care to spend our money with them going forward.

Your upset because they didn't send you an email saying the slide was broken? Lets just say they sent you an email saying its broken, would you have cancelled your cruise? asked for a $50 credit?

We would have not booked. People tend to think that a slide is not a big deal. Im sorry, but it is a big deal to half of our traveling party... the Kids! If a person that likes to gamble books a cruise and hears that the casino is not open, should they not be upset? This is an advertised amenity of the ship. It matters. That the slide was not working since November's dry dock is an issue. Kids pay a cruise fare too. It is a big deal to some. Please do not minimize the impact. Today's families are busy and want to spend good quality time together. They want to get the most out of their hard-earned money. To keep this under wraps fo so long is an issue.

WoW, I wish my kids paid for their own cruises. How did you get them to pony up? I can't get them work, much less pay for stuff. God Bless[emoji120]🏿

You know what that poster meant

But to answer your tongue n cheek question....

My kids always kick it for trips....they all work from age 13/14 on and once college comes I just pay tuition and make sure they don't starve when home and aren't in danger of being homeless

When it's a family trip they just pay a portion of course....$500 usually is average ...depending on the type if trip...Europe? Cruise with airfare? No airfare? Disneyworld? It depends on the trip of course. They all work ...they all have cash accounts...they all know they have certain financial responsibilities. They all pay their own cells too

I can't believe how many parents actually pay their adult kids cell phone bills ...[emoji79]

When they study abroad or travel with friends...it's totally on their dime ...even high school trips....

Btw my kids are 15 to 25.

25 yo totally self supporting of course well educated and industrious

21 yo totally self supporting by mid year but pays for everything she needs or wants out of her own pocket ...other than my above mentioned tuition etc she also has a viable career path and is paid very well as a nurse assistant while she is still in college for nursing degree

20 yo is full time college but I made sure she had a viable skill as a kid and now charges $40 for a 30 minute ice skating lesson and is in great demand and has several regular babysitting gigs each week $500 per week is not unheard of for her

15 yo babysits frequently and $15 an hour is the norm here

Ok....and yes all honors students....and we are a 1 income family....and the kids love traveling and realize it's benefits so having them kick in is no big deal for them....they expect to...want to....

I would be the idiot if I didn't expect them to work and cover most of their own stuff

Remember...I said I pay tuition...feed them....house them.....but have no issue having them kick in for trips

And yes...the 21 yo is planning to return home to live after she graduates ...so $500 a month in rent starting in September. She's getting a free ride for the summer...lol....she's summa cum laude!!!!

LOL! Well played! It would be nice if they were able to fund themselves. They are still too young (4 and 10) to really earn an income. Darn federal child labor laws, hahaha....

That's okay, I think most understood exactly what you meant.
