Getting money via Sail & Sign at the tables, then paying down S&S card with gift card

Is this allowed? I have about $1500 in Carnival Gift Cards I have accumulated over the last 2 years from promos, points redemptions and such and I was wondering that in lieu of carrying money for the casino, can I just get chips with my S&S when I sit at tables, which will then go on my card balance. Can I thn just go to gest services and have the cards applied to my balance? I know there is a 3% service charge for getting money at the tables, but I'd just be doing $300 or so at sitting.

Thoughts?

yes you can

you could also do it thru the slots to bypass the 3%

Someone posted in the casino section a few days ago that Carnival now stopped this and if you charge money on the slots and just try to cash it out they charge the 3% fee

I think wayyyy to many people were doing this and not even gambling. Just trying to save the ATM fees

I also saw that, but it seems strange that there aren't more posts about that if true. That thread was started 12/14.. Surely more people here or on FB would have also mentioned it.

Guess we will have to stay tuned

I'm confused, can't you just apply the cards to your sign & sail account and then get money at the tables and still avoid the 3%?
From everything I read, Carnival's casino charges a 3% fee if you get money at the cage against your Sail & Sign card for the purpose of table gaming. I had always read that the way around the 3% fee was to just download it to a slot machine first, then cash out.

That's disturbing news if they now are charging the 3% fee even at slots -- I had planned to wash some of my gift card through the slots and cash out.

I did this with the slots in early December because I had quite a bit left on a gift card to use. I had no problems. I took my gift card to Guest Services and applied it to my Sail & Sign account and then charged my room at the slot machine. When I finished playing, I cashed in what was left on my S&S card at the casino cashier. It was actually several hundred dollars left because I won a jackpot on a slot machine.

They don't want you using the casino as a free ATM.

The gift card balances are refundable. Just load them to your S&S account and if you don't use it, get a check about week after you return home.

Why jump through all those hoops? I personally don't like to carry a wad of cash when I'm travelling home, anyway.

Worrying about $45 dollars really? I tip more than that at the Casino.

No need for the snarky comment. I'm sure the dealers are very happy that you tip more than $45.00. The OP asked a questions in a very nice manner. Some people take thousands of dollars in gift card to use at the casino. If someone had $4,000, the 3% would be $220.00 - that's a lot of money!

Redo your math. 3% of $4,000 is only $120. And if I gambled $4,000, then I wouldn't blink an eye at $120.

I just got off the Dream and basically did the same thing. I had $500 in gift cards, downloaded them at the Kiosk across from Guest Services (much faster than waiting in line at GS). Then went to the casino and bought in for $500 at the craps table. Sure it cost me $15 in fees, but I got the gift cards through Verizon and saved $50. So, really netted $35 and still won at the table for the week.

Can anyone else confirm the 3% charge at the slots ? I bring a few thousand at the minimum to gamble and its usually in discounted gift cards I get with points and I don't give away money even if its 3% of the total so Ill need to find an alternative way to do it

  • 3 weeks later...

Sitting in the dining room ready to leave the splendor and I thought I'd report what happened to us on this cruise. The last day they locked my account meaning I couldn't charge on my sign and sail anymore ,it said talk to casino staff .I asked the cashier and she said I just must have downloaded cash to my casino account and didn't play. They lock it after doing this 2 times.Make sure you play a spin or two then cash out and you will not have any issue. The casino manager turned my card back on within 10 minutes. This is how they are trying to prevent doing this instead of atm machine

I guess that's why I have never had a issue. I have always played a few minutes when i got cash out of the slots.

Same here, I figure since I'm avoiding the 3% might as well do a few spins to see if I can win something.

It would be interesting to see if its just a straight 2 times cut off if you don't spin. Or if there is a dollar amount cut off.

Premier Players cruise, no fee @ table, download from slot machine, or cage, charged to your S&S.
