7 Mile Beach questions

Hi, we will be there in about five days on our cruise. I am wondering what a picturesque, quiet area of the beach would be?

Also, I've heard there's a great jerk chicken stand next to Calico Jack's. Is this still the case? Also, how far a walk would it be from the taxi drop off?

Are the public busses still running to 7 Mile? Any info on directions from dock to bus stop would be appreciated. Thank!

You are coming at the busiest week of the year. Few (if any) sections of SMB will be quiet. Still picturesque, but likely more crowded than usual.

You can always catch a bus or taxi to drop you at whatever section of the beach you prefer (ie. Public Beach where Calico Jacks is) and the walk along until you find a spot that appeals to you.

Sections without facilities, like Cemetary Beach or Governors Beach, will likely be less crowded than the spots with facilities.

Thank you! If we take the public bus, will it take us only to the main entry? Better to take a cab if we want to explore an area further away from main entrance? Thanks again.

Main entrance to what? Seven Mile Beach? There is no "main entrance" to Seven Mile Beach.

There are many, many access points to Seven Mile Beach. Because the beach is so long it is easier to speak about which access point you want to be dropped at. Taxis will either drop you off curbside or in the parking lot, as applicable, at your chosen site. Buses will only drop you curbside. The difference in distance to walk is negligible.

Buses will drop you curbside pretty much anywhere along their route. I've even seen one stop in the middle of a traffic-light controlled intersection to discharge a passenger. You are not required to board or disembark a bus only at designated bus stops.

7 Mile Beach is about 6 miles of beachfront....there are MANY entry points....the beach is narrow, so it's never a long walk from the road...food/drink, restrooms, etc...are all along the beach area.

When you want to leave, walk up to the road, and a bus will stop!

We have been to Grand Cayman 3 times on cruise ships.

Each time after stingray city we have gone to TIKI beach.

We like it.

Why?

It seems to have everything we need.

Reasonable lunch

Beach rentals for those who wish, chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, jet skis.

Clean restrooms

Beautiful water with nice sandy beach.

Now mind you we take our beach bag and towels from the ship and plop down on the sandy ocean front.

It is HOT. Even with drinking plenty of fluids we usually only make it 1-2 hours here.

We always keep one person with the beach stuff, when we just rest on our towels. It is a public beach.

One year we rented two loungers (cannot remember price but not too bad) and I attached and locked my Kyss bag and had no problems with anything missing.

When done we shower off with the fresh water showers in our bathing suits by the restrooms, go in the restrooms to put dry clothes on and catch a cab back if we want to get back to port quik or take the bus and with the stops it makes we usually get back in about 15 min.

Enjoy

We do

Sue,

Thanks for letting us know about the Tiki Bar. Is there an entry fee? What about fees for chairs and umbrellas? Their website lists food and drinks prices, but not other prices.

We will be in Grand Cayman in January so this information would be helpful.

Thanks.

It is a public beach free to get in from the walkway at the streetside.

All the other stuff is a charge, loungers, snorkel gear, umbrellas.

We got bottled water, and one year a lunch buffet reasonable and we lived to talk about it and did not get sick.

It is HOT here.

You wont make it long, just chill on towels.

We only rented loungers once and only made it two hours.

You will like it here.

Enjoy

Drink plenty of water!!!

We were there a few days ago, spent some time at Calico Jacks. Yes, the guy is still near there making jerk chicken and jerk pork. We had the pork, it was excellent (even my very fussy 10 year old loved it, said it was the best meat he'd ever eaten). He's not really in a "stand" - just was set up with a grill, in the shade of a big tree, right next to the parking area (by the parking lot, there's a small sandy soccer field & a playground - he's right by that). If you're anywhere near him, you'll smell the food cooking.
