QTPieRye Posted January 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2016 I am on hold right now with Carnival... meanwhile thought I'd ask here. Has anyone ever traveled with a paper copy of their driver's license and certified birth certificate and different picture ID (i.e. Unified School District Badge, Costco Card, etc.)? QTPieRye Posted January 5, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted January 5, 2016 DMV takes 10 days to get original card in mail, but they will print out copy. Trying to figure out if that will suffice for both Carnival and TSA.

It creates a lot of headache and can take a long time to get through security though. But TSA shouldn't stop you from traveling at all. Carnival is another issue. E&B Posted January 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2016 You can get a passport expedited in less than four days if you have proof of travel.
SadieN Posted January 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Will the paper copy be valid? I know the DD's paper license stated it couldn't be used as ID. Bring your school district badge and the paper ID. Costco ain't going to help you ( voice of experience:) )

ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted January 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Bring every form of ID you have including birth certificate, printed temp license, social security card, 12th grade HS ID :D , credit cards and any other form of ID you can think of. If you bring overwhelming proof of who you are you may not have a problem. Good luck!
FTLCruiseGal Posted January 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Is there no DMV in your area? I have had a replacement drivers' license the same day that I went. Yes, you will have to wait, but you will get it the same day. You need government issued photo ID to travel -- school ID does not count as government issued. Passport, drivers' license, state issued ID card, those are government issued.

lizardhowson Posted January 5, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Every state offers replacements for lost/stolen driver's license. Make a police report to the department that has jurisdiction in the area where you lost the license, get a copy of the report, then go to DMV and get a replacement. mumtopugs Posted January 5, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 5, 2016 My DMV also mails licenses and does not print them on site. I say try the passport and every single thing you have with your name on it.

Has anyone ever traveled with a paper copy of their driver's license and certified birth certificate and different picture ID (i.e. Unified School District Badge, Costco Card, etc.)? I just read a thread a little bit ago where the guy had a paper copy of his license and it worked fine for him (not sure which line). All the regulations say is you need a photo ID, it says nothing about being laminated :).
ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted January 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Some states now use only verified drivers licenses which are printed out of state, so getting them same day can't be done. You'll just get a paper temporary license until the new one comes in the mail two weeks later. Georgia used to print them on-site, but 2 years ago they changed to the verified ones. Thanks everyone! Glad she found it. Hopefully more states will offer kiosks (like Tennessee) where you can get a temporary photo DL on the spot. Very convenient. While the OP has a passport her friend doesn't and I don't know why you would assume she would have one since it's not necessary for a US citizen on a closed loop cruise. Over 16 need a gov't issued id, be it a drivers licence or state id, NOT a school id. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk We have needed to show id every time we fly from Boston to wherever and back again. We travel three to four times a year.
