B2B why?

Recommended Posts

So this is for the B2B folks and is meant to be a friendly question. not attacking or judging but my question is why? And then I'd have to ask if you've done multiple B2B's, WHY?

My wife and I are travelers. We've traveled the world. We love to fly someplace new and exciting each time and be immersed in the local culture. Very rarely do we do touristy things. We've been lucky enough to see and do things that most people only dream about. A true blessing.

We only cruise once about every 5 or 6 years. From the number of cruises most folks on here show in their signatures that they have completed, how many times can you see the Caribbean? So, do these B2B cruises go other places than the Caribbean?

If it's a matter of liking to be on a ship for that long, I've seen cruises that are anywhere from 10 days to 64 days that travel the world.

Just wondering.

I have done several B2B cruises. I love doing that. Here are my reasons:

1) I often feel sad when a cruise is coming to an end and think how great it would be to stay on the ship...for another cruise. And in many instances, the itinerary is different the next leg, so I see new port.

2)On more than one occasion I have been offered a very, very, reduced rate to stay on the ship when the next cruise is not sold out. Cheaper than I can live at home. Retired here, so why not? Sometime I get to stay in the same cabin even, but if I move, the staff moves all of my items and I do not have to repack.

3)I like being on the ship, and staying on board, I do not have to relearn my way around as when boarding a new ship.

4)Even if I go to the same ports, there is SO much to do, I get to explore more. WITH the knowledge I have gleamed from being in the port before with it still fresh on my mind.

5)It is just FUN! I enjoy being one of the first on board, and staking out a position over the lobby and watch the people as they come aboard.

Have I justified enough reasons to consider doing a B2B?

I live in NY and the winters wear me down. I saw two Journeys cruises, from Miami to San Juan for 10 days, and then San Juan to Miami for 11 days. That means I am south of Miami for 21 days in Jan and Feb instead of being in NY. RT air NY to MIA is indeed maximized.

My question about b2b cruises is on the 2ND week doesn't it get boring on the ship. Same shows same things going on, same food? Or do they mix things up?

I guess it could but it depends what you do on the ship. I don't bother with the shows and the food can get boring unless you get creative. I have a high stress job so it takes a couple days on the first cruise to forget about work and then the last couple days on the second are spent anticipating work about to start. If I only did one cruise I'd only have 3 days to enjoy it...

They show the same shows but I never have time to do everything that I want to do so I alternate between watching shows the meaning and watching comedy club and doing karaoke some evenings.

Good point . If it takes half the cruise to de-stress a b2b I'd a good way to go

Yeah, I always seem to miss the comedy shows because I enjoy the show shows. . So b2b would sure solve that

That's what I was thinking, between the comedy, main shows, movies, casino, I always miss doing something. On our b2b I'm thinking I will fit more in.

It has not been a problem for me. There are things on the menu I would like to try so I have something different the second week. Just got off a 5 day and never got a chance to have anything on the everyday menu! Some show I have liked well enough to see twice, but there are always things to do. I never got to see a movie on the Lido deck and there were a couple I would have liked to have seen. I could not make it to all the comedy shows, so I can go there instead of the main show room and usually it is a different comedian every week any way. There is other entertainment around the ship, this last time I never had time to sit and enjoy the players in the atrium lounge. And if you are a gambler there is always that!

We will be doing our first B2B (non traditional B2B) We will be getting off Royal Princess after 10 days and onto Carnival Conquest for 8 days. For us (now) it is boiling down to the cost of air fair. It is much too expensive for us to travel all the way across the country for just 7 days or less. We also have long winters here in the northwest and being on a cruise ship sounds much more inviting that home shoveling snow!

We are a family of 4, with 2 small children (newly 6 and newly 3). Cruising is the easiest family vacation for us right now. We live in Florida and can drive to the ports. We can stay in 1 room all week and not have to worry about driving to every location we want to see. We just walk down the hall for dinner, don't have to worry about where to go every night. Kids need a nap? Down the hall to the room.

Additionally, not having to fly greatly reduces the cost, and we are not very high income. It is an affordable vacation for us, but still allows us to get away and relax and see new things.

There are lots of things to do in most ports. I could go to Cozumel 5 more times (at least) before I go everywhere I want to go. So repeats aren't really a big deal to us.

Would I rather fly off to Europe and spend a week in Italy? Yes. Is that feasible for our family right now? No. And even if it was, I would rather wait until the kids are old enough to really remember and appreciate it. What is feasible is our upcoming B2B on the sunshine, which has enough for the kids to do, like water slides and zip lines and what have you, enough for us to do, and it doesn't really 'matter' if they don't remember it when they are old- we won't be seeing famous paintings or buildings etc.

We just went on our first B2B cruise out of San Juan on Carnival Liberty last month and we have another booked for next year on the Conquest. For the Liberty we repeated the same Southern Caribbean itinerary twice. Here are my reasons.

1) only have to pay for flights and deal with the hassle of flying once

2) get to spend 2 days at each place instead of one, so no need to rush or feel like we missed out on something. We did different things in each port with the exception of Barbados which we enjoyed our first week so much, we went back to the same place

3) get to experience all activities on the ship since more than one thing is always going on at the same time. They also had different comedians each week and different cruise passengers which completely changes the vibe of the whole ship

4) There are tons of islands in the Caribbean and many of them are very different from one another

I think some people, myself included, just want a few weeks of total relaxation. I'm all for visiting other places but it's nice to only have to unpack once and still get to visit a different place each day.

I don't try to do everything on the first week, but plan 1st week itinerary and what I missed I plan for 2nd week. There are many selections on the menus so I make a decision on what I'll try the second week when I selecting on the first week.. What I trying to say is I plan both weeks so they are not duplicates. I get a chance to try a lot more things on in 14 days instead of 7.
