Budget Queen Posted January 17, 2016 #26 Share Posted January 17, 2016 After arriving at the lodge in the afternoon we have scheduled the Byers Lake Nature Walk --realizing that it is pricey for a 2 hr guided walk but it is what we enjoy doing. . I can't imagine paying for this. :) I've stayed at Byers Lake a few time in a RV and it's a basic loop walk with not much difference. Is there any chance they have other hikes listed in the Alaska state parks? There are a lot better trails in the area,
Alaskanb Posted January 17, 2016 #27 Share Posted January 17, 2016 I can't imagine paying for this. :) I've stayed at Byers Lake a few time in a RV and it's a basic loop walk with not much difference. Is there any chance they have other hikes listed in the Alaska state parks? There are a lot better trails in the area, I realize that and a few years ago would have looked into much more interesting hikes. After knee replacements, and other surgeries that affect walking in general, a basic loop is doable --being outdoors in a forested area is bliss. I like to know about the plants of an area so will have questions galore for the guide. Thanks for your concern :)
Pushka Posted January 17, 2016 #28 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Thanks again Budget Queen for that tip. We arrive into Talkeetna by train and have booked a TAT flight for 2pm to avoid that 2 hour shuttle repeat. I did read that there is some pressure to go straight to the Lodge. Is it easy to find where the Princess shuttle departs in Talkeetna?
Budget Queen Posted January 17, 2016 #29 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Is it easy to find where the Princess shuttle departs in Talkeetna? Sure is. You will be told the pick up location on the train. And there won't be any way to miss it. A Princess bus is very out of place in Talkeetna. :) Wait to you get there. :)
Alaskanb Posted January 17, 2016 #30 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Discovered that the ranger station in Talkeetna has an interesting film on climbing Denali. Will add it to our list of things to do in Talkeetna. Half a day sounds just right :)
