Crystal Cruises has dropped our Turkish ports, so we will have two extra days in Greece at the end of our trip. We have seen Athens, so looking for ideas that are accessible from the port but would get us out into the Greek countryside or a smaller town. Something quaint & picturesque? We like history, food, wine etc but don’t care about luxury or nightlife. Suggestions please!

Also whilst in port at Piraeus one night take a taxi over the hill to the bayside dining area at Mikrilimano where sensational night time dining overlooking the harbour where RGYC boats of all the Greek rich and famous are anchored.

We like a blue and white seafood joint, and long surviving Zorbas .

If you have a few hours to fill in Piraeus (before or after a tour), it's worth visiting the Archaeological Museum there, which is walking distance from the port. There are some excellent bronzes that are the equal of anything in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, as well as some other unusual and interesting pieces. It's small, yes, but worth a couple of hours.

You could simply rent a car and drive yourself down the coast to Sounion. There are also some alternative inland routes where you can see lots of countryside and perhaps stop at a cave (we cannot remember the cave complex we once visited while driving North from Sounion).

If I recall, there are set tours from the port that take you to three Saronic islands in one day - Hydra, Poros and Aegina. It would be better to do just Hydra and Aegina or only Hydra. This would fit the bill for "quaint and picturesque."

The drive to Sounion is one of our favorites. Great if you are there for the sunset, but nice anytime. There are a lot of beaches on the way where you can stop for lunch or dinner. This will take half a day.

Crystal will probably offer the Corinth, Epidaurus and Mycenae tour. Or you can book that with a tour company. This would be the "history" you like.

It is also possible to take a day trip to Delphi. With 48 hours you have many options.
