Great news! I'm pregnant. At 38 + other factors, we thought we might have troubles conceiving, but nope! First try.

Terrible news!!! We were going to have our last hurrah 4/10 on the Splendor at about 16 weeks along. Unfortunately, with the Zika virus spreading down there, it's not possible. We already cancelled a July cruise since I'll be too far along. So sad. Looks like I've taken my last cruise for a while.

My coworkers aren't really getting it, so I thought venting to someone who would actually understand might help.

Thanks for "listening!"

Congratulations first of all - what a joy!!

We are a retired military family, and have moved and traveled since my marriage 20 years ago. I've born my children overseas, and have never had a vacation alone with my husband. For real.

Please believe me when I say that cruising with small children is still amazing. They have logged 30 international flights, many many countries (and oh the food and cultural sites) and two cruises. Its a whole new world for you, but don't be discouraged in any way. Besides, until Kindergarten, cruising in the off seasons is so cheap! I think we paid about $100 for each of them on our Baltic cruise. SO many good things ahead for you!

Now for the sympathy - the Zika virus is terrifying. I am so sorry you had to cancel. I am terrified for all young mothers in the possible harms way. You are making the right call.

Congrats and you totally made the right decision! Not worth the risk.

But what about an Alaskan cruise?

Great idea except Alaska doesn't open until late May.She would be too far along. But running with wantocruiemore's idea what about west coast cruise?

Thanks for all the support.

It was such a great casino offer and I only paid $75 with $50 back in OBC. I'm sure there will be more, though. At least it wasn't a financial loss. Frontier Airlines started a program with seat choice, bags and refundable tickets for a flat rate so we will get most of our airfare back, too.

We live in a beautiful state (Colorado) that we haven't even begun to explore and there are a lot of other opportunities to look into. I'm leaning toward a road trip into the mountains or maybe Yosemite or Sequoia. I will miss the beach, for sure, though.

Congratulations!

Right decision of course!

There will be cruises again some day, and lots and plenty of other vacations you can do closer to home, to tide you over till then. Again, congrats and best wishes:)

Ideas...

Love Sequoia. King's Canyon still has housekeeping cabins :D

-3 or 4 day cruise out of LA?

-From what I've read the virus is on the Mexican East coast and Mexico City. Not on the West Coast so a 7 day MR should be good, check it out.

-Coastal Redwoods? They're finally getting rain.

-Princess does California Coastals from LA and San Francisco.

-Good time of year to visit Death Valley

Congrats on the pregnancy!

Maybe you can still find a cruise to safe destinations? Or take a different cruise?

Keeping your baby safe is the right thing to do and will pay dividends to you and your husband.

Congratulations!!! I'm sorry about the cruise... it is just the first of many, many sacrifices that you will GLADLY make for your beautiful child! The sacrifices will come often, the love will be ALWAYS!!!

I like your attitude about coming up with another get-a-way with your husband. Also, you can work together to create a beautiful nursery!

Congratulations! You have so much to look forward to with your little one. As far as your vacation goes . . .

We used to live in Colorado. Definitely explore the state as often as you can. There is to much to see. However, Last May we took a trip to Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite and San Francisco. It was one of my favorite vacations ever. I highly recommend doing something like this given that you cannot take a cruise right now.

We stayed just outside Yosemite at Four Seasons ( cabins, not the swanky hotel) had a wonderful studio with kitchen and hot tub on the front porch. In Palm Springs (someone mentioned Death Valley) check out Korakia Pensione. You will feel like you're in another world.

Best of luck and congrats!
