RuthC Posted February 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I'm sure there will be some. Since it's school vacation time there will be families on board. There's even an entire passageway with many quad cabins that connect to double cabins. Room for up to six people to travel together easily, and keep tabs on the kids all night. But Holland America tends to have fewer kids than many other lines. They have a Club HAL that keeps them occupied, and generally out of the way. There are times, though....

lynn2002 Posted February 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2016 We sailed on the Nieuw Amsterdam (cruising Mediterranean) in 2014 with my then 10 year old daughter. There were plenty of children on board as it was the summer holidays and my daughter had a great time. She loved the HAL club, and swimming with her new friends. Not as many children as Royal Caribbean who can have over 1000 children on the Independence in the summer holidays but enough for your child to make plenty of friends. GradUT Posted February 11, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2016 We were on the Eurodam last summer for a 12-day Baltic Sea cruise. There were few children on this cruise. Fewer families tend to cruise on HAL (as compared to other cruise lines), especially on cruises lasting more than a week. But remember that these cruises are pretty port-intensive, so you'll likely be off the ship almost every day sightseeing as a family.

Thank you , yes, that's the reason we booked even though it's not a family type cruise 😊. I just hope there are some kids for him to have some play time too 😊
bracy Posted February 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 11, 2016 We took our two boys on the Eurodam for a week and also the Zuiderdam for 10 days. Both over spring break and there were plenty of kids on board, but not the craziness of say Disney. HAL is either #1 or #2 on my kids' favorite cruise lines list. They have been on Celebrity, Royal, Carnival, and Disney also. They love HAL because there are so few kids. They don't have to wait in lines for what they want to do, kid friendly stuff like ping pong is in really great condition, and they get lots of attention from the camp counselors. They also think the food is great and love playing chess with their fellow passengers. Enjoy your cruise.
Shetlander Posted February 12, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2016 I read that Eurodam is for older crowds and was wondering if there are gonna be any kids on our summer cruise ( 12 night ) ?!?! Thanks ! I think that you will find that there will be other children on your cruise. We were on Zuiderdam last summer and there were quite a few children. My children had a good time although used Club HAL less than when we sailed on Ryndam with fewer children! If your itinerary is Barcelona to Venice then that is a lovely one - we visited Kotor on Ryndam and thought that it was a particularly nice port. I'm sure that you will all have a great time! TheCalicoCat Posted February 12, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2016 We've taken our son on a 12-nighter & our next cruise is a 14-nighter - so it is possible (If you thought that the length was a limiting factor.) Probably not as many as on a 7-nighter.

YBA Posted February 17, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 17, 2016 Took the Eurodam in New England last summer. My 4 year old son was the only person under 18 on the ship.
ellieanne Posted February 17, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 17, 2016 When I was on the Eurodam in the summer, there were a few children, but more teen-agers/pre-teens who caused a great deal of irritation. They had to be escorted from the bar areas the nightclub (prior to the most recent dry dock changes), and at least three of the little darlings carved names into the elevator button panels. I know I alerted the front desk/security to a group of 4 who were knocking on all the cabin doors from the elevator to their cabin at all hours. It was not an experience I care to repeat any time soon.
Wehwalt Posted February 17, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 17, 2016 I was on the Eurodam for 36 days last summer and there were very few kids (Norway and Scotland/Baltic/Baltic). I remember one teenage boy on the tender responding with great patience to Stupid Adult Questions (some of us were teenagers once). Compared to some cruises with kids sitting on the stairs and also making the buffet unfit for human consumption, it wasn't much.

Thanks ! In the mid summer you should expect 200-400 kids (under 18) on the ship. Perhaps a little less beginning of july or end of august Edited February 21, 2016 by 3ssn
