meet and greets?

question: how are meet and greets handled on Norwegian?

I know that Carnival doesn't sponsor official ones, and we've had to arrange them informally ourselves in the past...RCL actually sets aside a room and provides some light refreshments; and also they have an activities staff member greet the group and provide a few door prizes and such

Find your Roll Call here on Cruise Critic, or start one if there is not already one posted. You can volunteer to handle the Meet and Greet if someone has not already offered. You then notify NCL of the number on the roll call who have expressed interest in attending. They will notify you of the venue reserved, and the date and time, usually at 11:00 the first sea day. NCL Senior Staff will attend and usually hand out cards with direct phone numbers. Light refreshments are provided by NCL. There is a "sticky" above on how to set up a Meet and Greet and how to find your roll call.

Usually the person who starts a thread for a particular cruise, makes the arrangements for a Meet and Greet. Norwegian sets the day, time and place for the M&G and provides light refreshment- pastries, coffee, juice, etc. Usually the Senior Hotel Management attends and on rare occasions the Captain.

The person setting up the M&G will sometimes plan other events for the group who ask someone else to do it.

The M&G's I have either hosted or attended last about an hour.

I hope this answers your questions.

Kinda the same. An organized greeting in a lounge or bar. Ship staff and officers show up. Refreshments. Post-cruise. NCL prompts you to do a review on CC. So,,, they are incentivized to make and effort for the CC members at the meet and greets.

thanks, y'all...My roll call thread has been very "slow" so far...we do have someone a couple of months who volunteered to steer the M&G, and I did post this same question in that thread with no response for a few days...that's why I posted the question here in the main NCL forum...I mainly was just curious at what happened during the actual M&G itself, and y'all answered most of my questions...it sounds very similar to what I experienced on RCL, where the ship staff itself is involved...on Carnival you are basically on your own, and it's more of a self-run thing

The staff will line up and and one of them will handle the welcome to CC Members and introduce the staff. They may mingle for a few minutes but usually split very quickly. Depending on the roll call, some have organized gift exchanges or people just mingle awhile before heading off. Some have organized a slot pull in the Casino to immediately follow the Meet and Greet. Cabin Crawls or even Pub Crawls are organized as well, usually for another sea day. Sometimes individuals organize private tours. Just depends on how involved your members are.

great...I have done gift exchanges before, so I will suggest that to my roll call group...usually we just spend a small amount and bring a gift (souvenir type) relevant to our hometown or home state :)

Great, as long as it is optional and you are not made to feel like a 5th wheel because you are not participating. I just don't have time, don't care to mess with it, and if the entire M&G is a gift exchange, I'll spend my time elsewhere. But I would have no problem with a gift exchange as long as long as I don't have to sit through an hour of that before I can meet anyone.

It appears from your signature you are not cruising for a bit which could be the reason of not alot of traffic. We booked our cruise over a year ago and our M&G thread was quiet for awhile. Someone in our group actually volunteered to run our M&G, another person is doing our slot pull, and a third is doing the gift exchange ($15 for any who wish to participate--most of us have UBP so we will enjoy drinks while playing) Another poster lives in New Orleans and offered to meet everyone at sail away to start our party with beads.

I have volunteered to set up M&Gs and it was easy and fun. One time I had a really good year and purchased a few CC items to share in a raffle which was fun. This is by no means advocating others do this it was my present.

Personally I think NCL does a great job with the M&G. We have only been to one RCCL and it was just the posters chit chatting and one crew member came in and said hi. Not even close to how NCL greets the CC folk. I like that you can ask questions of the officers present and you actually have a number to call should anything go not as expected.

I've been at M&G's with as little as 20 people and as large as, well, on the Escape TA they gave us the Manhattan Room and the Captain said it was the largest M&G NCL had seen.

There were easily 200+ people there. It was a lot of fun.

thanks for the additional feedback...it is very helpful...I do hope and expect our roll call thread to pick up as we get closer to cruise date--maybe during the summer...it does sound like, from what y'all have said, that NCL does provide a helpful and beneficial M&G experience...I am looking forward to it...I know it's not for everyone, but I am the type who does like to interact somewhat with fellow passengers and think it is part of the unique vacation experience which is cruising
