rance Posted March 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Trying to decide between a cruise next February 5th. Allure has a boardwalk balcony for the same price as inside on harmony. Allure does Cozumel labadee while harmony goes further to st Thomas and st Maarten. Will the water in western Caribbean be warm enough for swimming and snorkelling or are we better to head further south? Thanks
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Plan on it being in the 70's and low 80's. Can you from time to time have a cool morning? Yes but as the day goes along it will warm up. Keith
squiffynimrod Posted March 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) It really depends where you are from. If you're used to warm temperatures then it may seem cool. For us, it's like summer when we go there in January. I've been swimming at Junkanoo Beach in Nassau, snorkeling the Meso American reef off of Puerto Moreles MX, Stingray City in Grand Cayman and a beach club in Cozumel all in Januarys. Always found the water warm and could stay in as long as I wanted. Just remember I'm usually coming from this............... OfTheSeasCruiser Posted March 13, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Coming from a Pennsylvania winter, the water is plenty warm for swimming for me. With that said, one day on the ship it got breezy and cloudy, and I would not have been comfortable swimming.
SC_Floaters Posted March 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2016 You Can Not Beat COZUMEL for some of the world's best diving... Year round sea temperature is 77 to 82 degrees, Average air temp is 80 degrees with December & January in the mid 70's. Dennis & Sue

Pipo Posted March 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Anything between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, is warm enough year round (at sea level).
frawnsay Posted March 13, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2016 If you do Allure on February 5, we'll be onboard together! [emoji4] Out of curiosity, I've been checking temps at all three ports; it's consistently a high in the upper 80s! [emoji41]
cb at sea Posted March 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2016 If you're in the CARIBBEAN, it's warm all year round. Bahamas and Bermuda are NOT in the Caribbean, despite the brochures!

Per above ^ The Bahamas and Bermuda are NOT in the Caribbean! Once in the Caribbean, it's nice and warm all year. Don't worry about your Western Caribbean! We've been there many times in the January/February time frame and it was perfect for swimming and water sports. :) LuLu

Thanks Labadee, on the north (Atlantic) coast of Haiti, and Cozumel are warm enough for swimming year round, but the sea water temperatures at St. Thomas and St. Maarten will most likely be a few degrees warmer - if greater warmth is a deciding factor for you.
