Thank you for all the information! With Spice H20 do you need to get there early to get a chair ? I know at the main pool people have wrote that you need to be there early to grab a chair so I was just wondering about that area.

Any specialty resturants ? If so which ones did you like the best?

Thanks

Ann

We went to Ocean Blue, Cagney's, Teppanyaki, and La Cucina. We enjoyed Ocean Blue and Cagney's the best. I am a vegetarian, but gave the maitre d a days notice and at both Ocean Blue and Cagney's, they made a great vegetarian entree for me. Great service at the specialty restaurants.

Is Ocean Blue part of the specialty restaurant plan for the UDP?

I am confused as I saw I can book it for my upcoming cruise for $17.70 per person it says (on the NCL website), but then it makes a note that things are a la carte? Is there a price on top of the $17.70? I love seafood so hoping to check this out, but would prefer to book before boarding if I can!

I have cruised with Dan Dan before & also was not impressed with him. Found he was not around ship much & that was on a smaller jewel ship too.

Were you on the Gem when Dan Dan was the CD? We did the Gem last year and I could swear he was the CD but I am not sure. If so, I too was not impressed.

Yep, that is where I think I saw him, on the Gem. Totally unimpressed.

If you have the UDP, then you will just pay the upcharge of $17.70 pp. The a la carte pricing will not apply. However, they will point out that you can order one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. It was more than enough food!

I have been on the Gem twice and have had problems with the bathroom as I am 6'5 and had top bend a lot. Is there space between the toilet and the walls ?How was the shower ?

I have three inches on you at 6'8", you just have to deal with it. I found an easy way to shampoo, just place the shampoo on the ceiling!

My issue on the Jewel class ships was the toilet, no room to sit straight, keens were up against the wall.

I also have issues with stuff hanging in the hallway, sprinklers, signs etc.

All in all it is MUCH better than 1995 and the RCCL Monarch of the Seas or Carnival Imagination, I couldn't even be in public spaces without hitting my head.

Will try this out all again on the Breakaway in October.

FWIW

Also, if you order the Seafood Extravaganza dish... they will waive the surcharge because this dish is NOT available as part of the UDP. Just food for thought if you are figuring out reservations.

Hmmm and what is the Seafood Extravaganza & how much is it?

We do love seafood!

Not to jack a thread. I also disembarked this same cruise. They did close the casino at midnight due to our early arrival, i also hope the person is ok as well. We also left NY late due to someone having to come off the ship before we sailed(ambulance took them right off the pier). The captain was great in letting us know about the emergencies. I cruised this same ship last year the same time and this time it seemed so much less crowded. This was my favorite cruise and i have been on a few. My wife and i were in boarding group 5 and got vibe passes, the most people we counted in there at one time was 16(absolutley perfect). We met a lot of great people this cruise and are currently booking 2 more ncl cruises for this fall and next spring. I agree with cruise director(dan-dan) being mediocre, luz was the assistant and better. Jefferson was part of entertainment staff......he was GREAT! He even selected my wife to sing a duet with another female singer we met on board........this happened at the end of the karaoke contest in the atrium........if anyone has a video of this please contact me. Overall it was both of our favorite cruise.

Ps. The tenders were a little rough at gsc and a few people fell ill due to the choppy water. Hope this helps!

I was on the same cruise too and yes, the tenders to GSC were quite eventful! :D My kids LOVED it but I saw some people who looked like they were going to be sick any minute.

Ocean Blue is part of the UDP but you do need to pay $17.70 per person. If you pay the $17.70 per person and you have the UDP you can order anything from the menu. I am glad that I am not the only person who had an unfavorable impression of Dan Dan.

When does the pool and water park open? Is there a retractable roof over the pool so kids can swim the first day or do you have to wait until warmer days? If so, when is that - Monday or Tuesday? Thanks!

Pool does not have roof over it. The pool is heated. Water slides open at 10am daily......lines were almost non existent. I was in pool at 9 am monday.......there were quite a few people in hot tubs at time of sailing from ny. One tip: DONT open your eyes under water in pool........very very strong salt water.

Other threads have said that the only limitation is the entree but you can have as many apps as you want... which way does it go now?

Ocean Blue was the only specialty restaurant where we encountered this. The other specialties told us up front we could order as many apps and sides as we wished.

you can order anything except Seafood Extravaganza (it's buried in the T&Cs) which is treated completely different

We are getting married on the Breakaway April 24th followed by our "familymoon"!!! Do you happen to remember the times for Disembarking? We sailed the jewel a few years back so I do remember how the process works just curious about the times as we have to coordinate with our family and transportation to all leave the same time.

Thanks in Advance
