Carnival's website is pre-selecting cabins???

It always chooses a specific cabin, but you can click on any others that show available - you don't have to take the one they've chosen for you.

I guess I should clarify. I know it has always selected a cabin. The problem is the website is not showing any other cabins available to choose from. The deckplan doesn't even show to tell me where the only cabin that is selected is located.

I know cabins are available, I've checked other booking websites.

Has this happened to anyone else?

There is something going on. There have been some threads if you want to research if anyone was able to resolve it. Some people can have a "Show other Options" button to push. That does not show up for me.

Some people have had success when using a different browser. I did not.

Thanks. It worked in Explorer. Funny, I've always used Chrome without a problem. I hope you find a way around it.

I mentioned this before in another thread - Carnival is most likely doing some A-B testing on room selection options to see what converts to sales best. So if you're not seeing the 'Show other options' button, the reason is that Carnival has stored a cookie on your browser so it knows which version of the website to show.

That's why it sometimes works in other browsers, you just, luckily, ended up in a different test group. You can do the same thing in Chrome by opening an incognito window, so the website won't have access to any of its existing cookies. You won't be logged in, though, if you do that. You may have to do it several times, closing all incognito windows between tries, to get the web experience you're looking for, though.

They made another change. The screen were they list the stateroom # at the top of the screen under the stateroom description you can select "See More Options" the display will be like the old list of available staterooms.

This^^^. It took me a mock booking or two to figure out what was happening. But there is a link to "See more options" and it will give the traditional floor plan view where you can select any open room.

While this may or may not work with repetition you might be able to get to the view you want. What I did first was use a different browser, then when that gave me the deck plan view I went back to my preferred browser and deleted the cookies and was able to view the deck plan view on it as well.

There is another way to get to the old booking version. I find it a lot easier than switching browsers all around, deleting cookies, hoping for it to work, etc. It requires editing the URL, but it's a very simple edit ...

1. At the very end of the URL, add on ... &be_version=1

2. Near the beginning of the URL, you want it to show Stateroom/Stateroom2/. As an example ...

Instead of ... carnival.com/BookingEngine/Booking/Book?embkCode=...

Put in this ... carnival.com/BookingEngine/Stateroom/Stateroom2/?embkCode=...

Here is a full example of a corrected URL (CruiseCritic truncates the URL so you need to click the link to see all)

http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/Stateroom/Stateroom2/?embkCode=FLL&itinCode=CSM&durDays=8&shipCode=CQ&subRegionCode=CS&sailDate=01212017&sailingID=74621&numGuests=2&showDbl=False&isOver55=Y&isPastGuest=Y&stateCode=FL&isMilitary=Y&evsel=&be_version=1

Thank you! This started happening to me a week or so ago. I thought it was because our cruise was getting close so they were pushing to fill certain cabins. That kind of defeated the purpose of the "select your cabin" option.

I'll try a different browser.

LOVE this tip and the nice, basic layout on the resulting page! Thank you!!
