Gamblers Experience at the Monte Carlo Casino?

Hello,

We have a group sailing in July for a wedding. Several of us are gamblers. We plan on going to the casino at 2pm when it opens in full formal wear (the wedding is at 6pm and is formal).

I searched on this board and also Trip Advisor. Most reviews were from non-gamblers who were there to watch. Can anyone share their gambling experience? Did you get a players card? Are the dealers nice? How were the gratis drinks for gamblers? Was it bothersome to have a bunch of people standing and watching? How are the odds for Black Jack and craps? What are the table minimums? We have some high rollers and low rollers in our group.

Thanks in advance!

European casinos are very different from Vegas/Reno etc etc. Firstly you cannot enter without showing your passport and paying 10 euros entrance fee. If you wish to play poker in one of the private rooms it costs a further 10 euros. My daughter and SIL were there a few weeks ago and said there were many spectators. Not sure if they have craps.

Decorum, dress, money and manners are the words I would describe for The Casino.Id id not gamble there, but at the American Casino next door which is casual.Slots tight, craps ok.I would go to The Casino, and check it out for a bit and see what's up before letting loose. Most of the dealers will speak some English, and may or may not be of help. It's been a bit since I was there so things may have changed.Just be aware it is NOT Vegas and yo will be fine, and bring money.:D

Thank you for your prompt responses. But, I still have a few unanswered questions. We only have a few hours before the wedding, so we want to make good use of our time!

Did you get a players card?

How were the gratis drinks for gamblers? Did you get to select from premium alcohols and wines for your "free" drinks?

Was it bothersome to have a bunch of people standing and watching?

How are the odds for Black Jack and craps?

What are the table minimums? Do they frown on you if you are small potatoes gamblers? We have some high rollers and low rollers in our group.

If you are betting above the minimums and want to go to the private areas, will they really make you pay the extra $10 euros on top of the $10 you paid to get in?

Thanks in advance!

As someone else has previously posted, the casino is quite different than probably any other place you have probably experienced which is probably why your questions have not been answered - likely because most of the questions here do not apply, there aren't really any answers.

This casino looks more like a museum than it does a casino - or maybe a palace although I realize Las Vegas does have some very grand and ornate looking places - yes I have been there. In Monte Carlo it's quiet, dignified and reserved.

During my visit, the ONLY game being played was roulette. There are no tables with plaques on them indicating the betting limit on the table - it is what it is. French is spoken at the tables - though as has been mentioned, some dealers may speak English. If you wish to play slots or other games there is an American style room off the main casino floor; I did not go into it - the main floor of the casino was too beautiful to depart from.

I understand what you're asking - comped beverages, credits for playing on a hotel card - there's no such thing in this casino; betting limits - I think that might be handled on an individual basis here...there aren't signs on tables...everything is quite discreet in the casino. As to drinks...it's not a place where no name/brand name alcohol becomes an issue - I believe I drank champagne and it was elegant and wonderful.

I think the best thing to do is to research European style casino atmospheres although typically clubs tend to be private, members only though no doubt there is information available - one need only see a James Bond film to see what it is like - it's like that in Monaco! Just very very reserved, calm...it doesn't look like a casino, sound like a casino. Forget everything you know about any type of casino experience - the best thing to do is to go into this with open minds curious to see a different type of casino.

The most "disruptive" thing I saw was when a man made a dispute on a number/his bet - they were going to have to review the film on the camera over the table (that much is the same!) to see whether or not he had placed his bet on the number he claimed he had bet to see if he had won - it never got loud but it was interesting to see a *slight* bit of drama. He didn't win the bet.

Perhaps as people who enjoy gambling this might be a better experience just to visit the casino and maybe step into the American room a little while to see if you want to play because it really isn't anything remotely similar to what you are expecting it to be like - I don't mean to discourage you, only to help you either make other plans or just be aware of what you are going to see. Don't forget, everyone must have their actual passport to enter the casino.

Thank you Host Bonjour! I really appreciate your thorough and thoughtful response.

In my research, I did find that the Casino De Monto Carlo does have its own players card, Cercle Monte-Carlo Players Card. I couldn't find if you could sign up prior, like in US based casinos (it helps with lines of credit and such).

You also mention that there's no such thing as comped drinks in the casino, but I've read various reports that if you gamble, drinks were complementary. I wanted clarification that if I asked for premium alcohol, if I would be charged and I didn't want to look like an idiot ordering an expensive drink, caught off guard, where I could have received a free one that wasn't as high end.

I love champagne and can't wait to get a glass, and it sounds like I will have to pay for it!

A few of us in the group speak a little French, hopefully that will help us make less mistakes.

I emailed the casino several days ago with a few questions about the players club and such, I haven't heard back. Hoping to hear from people who have actually gambled. Thanks!

Just a note on waiting to hear..I don't think you will find someone on the board that can answer your questions in detail as you want because most people don't go to really gamble, but to look, and just maybe place a bet or two that's all. The casino next door would probably get a few more more replies re gambling,(so much more casual for sure)but most cruiser's don't go other than to sight see.I hope you hear back from the Casino, but you may try the Monaco?MC tourist site as well if you need all your questions asked.Good luck and have fun.
