Cheers Question

Hello we always have gotten the Cheers program but we now know we can prepay it which we love but we haven't done this because in the past we still had to go to a bar to get the sticker, question, if we prepay it now do we get our sticker when we check in and receive our onboard cards or do we still have to go get the sticker when we get on the ship?

Not sure, but I think I've read that you still get it at a bar and not at check-in. But why would you have objected to having to go to a bar to get a sticker? Aren't you going to a bar to get your first drink anyway? Seems to me it would be more inefficient to stand in a line to purchase it and get a sticker and then go to a bar to order a drink than it would be to just go to the bar, order a drink and have them put the sticker on then.

If anybody knows the answer please let us know because we prefer to prepay it before the cruise.

Yes, I am still going to the bar for that drink, but I like to pay for things as much as I can before the cruise. I am also afraid if I prepay it and not receive the sticker on my shipboard card, that there could be a possibility of an error of not being on that list of already paying for it and just like to avoid that possible problem. There is no line to get the sticker you get it at most of the bars, generally at the casino or lobby bar. I just trying to avoid any possible stress should we prepay and not be on that list.

Don't quote me, but I don't believe they put the stickers on the cards before sailing. But in all reality the sticker doesn't even matter, Cheers is on your account which comes up in the computer to zero out the drink, the sticker is merely a decoration.

You do not get it when you get your Sign & Sail card. Walk in the ship get a drink get your sticker. It is on your file. If you don't want to trust the system print out your receipt or pay $5.00 more and walk in get a drink and go through the hassle of having to buy it there.

We have done it both ways, easier and cheaper to do it ahead of time.

I was just on the Dream. They put it on at the bar when u get your first drink. I purchased it on March 7th for my March 13th cruise.

If you pre-purchase, they put a letter in your cabin that tells you about the program and what to do. If you go to a bar before your cabin, the bartender will just put the sticker on your card. Like others have stated, the sticker is just decoration and really has no point to it. The POS system will know you have Cheers.

Going on the Magic in January and was wondering if both my husband and I need to purchase either of the drink packages or can one of us just get it? I am not a drinker and don't care for pop so getting either would be a waste for me. I am happy to have the iced tea or lemonade and if I want pop I would just bring my own 12 pack onboard.

We prepurchased on the Glory on March 5 sailing and they put the sticker on it when we got our second drink. Any of the bars can put the sticker on which really does not matter because when they scan the card it shows that you have cheers. But the line to purchase cheers on the ship was pretty long and now of course it is much cheaper to pre purchase. We bought it 5 days prior to sailing.

Along the same lines - does anyone know how close to sailing you can purchase CHEERS.

We want to take care of it at the reduced rate - but don't want to give them our money before we have to. [emoji6]

It says on Carnival's Cheers! page:

Notice: Purchase early and save! On-board pricing is $54.95/person per day.

Cut-off for pre-purchase is the day before embarkation and 11:00pm EST through call center. Additional restrictions apply, see program details below.

I hope no one minds me jumping on here. I am trying to understand the gratuity charges and Cheer's. When I book Cheer's online it shows no extra charges for taxes or gratuities. I understand that tax is calculated and charged per drink ordered on board and only when in a US port. Is it safe to assume then that the gratuity is calculated and charged per each drink ordered the same as the tax would be and not by the program price?

Can anyone who has used Cheers onboard confirm this for me! I can't find anything on Carnivals web site. John Heald talked about it a few weeks ago but It still seemed a little fuzzy to me!

Thanks!

I just purchased Cheers online for our June cruise. The 15% gratuity was added into the price at final purchase. I was charged $229.77 x 2 (49.95 + 7.49= 57.44 x 4=229.77) which breaksdown with the gratuity included in purchase price. and from the funshop: $49.95/day 15% gratuity will be added to cart.:p

They just charge the gratuity for the program cost. It'll be 57.50/day instead of 49.99. The extra 7.50/day is gratuity. You can add more on each drink if you want. They'll give you a receipt to sign with each drink. Or You can adjust your cheers gratuity. I know I'm going to drink more so I just add more gratuity to start with, track my drinks, and add more at the end of the cruise if needed. They will charge you tax per drink while you are in US waters. For me each receipt while on the Mississippi River is like 27 cents. In the ocean the receipts are 0.
