Not using Vibe passes/cabanas

I feel like I see this quite a bit on CC. People get a Vibe pass or a Vibe cabana (which everyone always seems to love having) but they report back that there were cabanas empty all week and that the area itself was never crowded.

Considering that it's unanimous that Vibe seems to always sell-out and people are very anxious to be onboard early so they can have access, who do you think all of these people are that are purchasing but not using the passes?

Maybe I'm too frugal, but I know that if I spend the money, I would darn sure be using the area every opportunity I had.

Anyone here on CC ever get the passes and then really not use them?

And I do understand that sometimes the area is full and all cabanas are being used, but I definitely see posts where people say that it's not crowded and cabanas are empty. Just a curiosity question really.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Last year we got the Vibe passes and a cabana. We were in Vibe all day every day. We tried to use our cabana as much as we could. Problem was that I have to stay out of direct sun for anything more than a few minutes to prevent severe sun burn and the cabana didn't always provide shade, in fact, it seemed partially or fully in direct sun most of the time. I wonder if other people abandoned them for the same reason? I hadn't seen pictures of them and wrongly assumed they would provide shade. The top is not adjustable. Also keep in mind Vibe is very windy and some people might find that unappealing once they find out. All in all we were usually the only ones using our cabana and they were sold out on our sailing, we got the last one. It's very strange.

I've done Vibe with the cabana on the BA twice. It was a place for me and my friends to go relax when we needed it. I did other things on the cruise, so it might not seem like I was there all the time, because I wasn't.

I would go during sea days and relax for a while as needed (an hour or two here and there, before and after games/slides/meals). On port days, I would go and relax after a day at the beach (again and hour or so, napping and relaxing). I've even done sail-away there twice.

My space was there for when I needed I it, and I got my expected use out of it. I never intended for it to be my only stop on the cruise for 4-5 hours a day.

Funny, I have had Vibe passes hardly used it, Stayed in the H9 spa suite ad never stepped foot in the spa and outside of eating or having a drink in the Haven hardly spend more then 1/2 an hour in the courtyard.

I like being around the lively people by the main pools, the casino etc.

That's just me.

And before everyone jumps in, I like the bigger room, the huge balcony & the butler service.

Way too windy the first few days last year on the Getaway. No way you could enjoy it for more than a short period of time. It was BAD.

And they sell a limited amount of passes so odds are that when you are there, others might be doing other things. That is one of the attractions....very limited list of folks who can get in.

I had a cabana on the Getaway in September. I rarely stayed in the Cabana because it was soooo hot! No breeze what so ever. I am going on the Escape in a few weeks and will try to get regular passes this time around.

To be fair I also had the thermal spa pass as well. I think getting both is a bit much, just in the fact that there is so much to do.

I was solo and thought that I would spend 70% of my time there. It's amazing how many people I met though and they didn't have the pass so it was limiting my time there.

Thanks for the responses. I get it.

But honestly, as I said in my original post, if I were spending extra money for the passes and/or cabana, I probably would feel compelled to spend a decent amount of time there. But that's just me. I'd need to justify (to myself only) the extra money.

And really, that's why CC is so wonderful. It's a great way to get this type of information and others' opinions on things. Since booking our April 3 cruise about 2 months ago, we've made a couple of big decisions about what we'll be doing and how we'll be spending our time and money. We made the decision not to go for an upsell to the Haven and not to even make an attempt to get Vibe passes. The way we look at it, that's $1,160 we've saved by reading here. For us, our large mini suite balcony is all we need to make this the relaxing vacation we're looking for.

I'm actually happy I started this thread because it sort of did confirm our decision not to go for Vibe passes. But don't get me wrong - I'm very happy for everyone who gets them...whether they use them for 1 hour during the cruise or 12 hours each day!!

Thanks ~

I was on the same cruise as Buchman67, who I met at our cruise critic meet/mingle. I had a regular vibe pass, and she was nice enough to let me try out her Cabana for a bit.

The Vibe was very windy most of the sea days. They could not have the umbrellas up, and your belongings would fly away. Meanwhile, the cabana's block all that wind making them very warm.

I would still recommend getting a regular pass, as the -away class ships are lacking in deck space. I did enjoy have access to a bar that was never busy, and also its a great venue for sail away.

Hello! Small world :) hope you guys are doing well. Totally forgot about that.

As an FYI, for those who may wonder the Cabanas come with two passes and as I said I was solo, so I had the extra pass.

My wife and I had vibe passes on the Escape. On sea days we were there about 2/3's of the day. Other couples maybe half. Other people arrived at 7am and left at 5pm. Our first sea day vibe was very windy until late afternoon

We have an OV booked with our 3 kids... So we are hoping to be the lucky ones to get the vibe pass and we will be using it! Seems worth it for $99 each to have a kids free zone. (we got ksf deal for spring break so no upgrades to connecting rooms )

Our friends got them, and didn't use them either. They said it was a snoozefest in there. They much more enjoyed the live music at the pool, and even the liveliness of Spice H2O to be much more fun. We haven't (and wouldn't) purchase them for the same reason. Some people don't realize until afterwards that it really isn't their speed.

I love Vibe, I'm there to chat with my friends, read a book, have a few cocktails. I like not fighting for a lounge chair and having music blaring, but that is me. I love music blaring when it's time for it, when I'm trying to relax and read, it's intrusive.

I can't see wanting a cabana though, glad they did away with them on Escape and have more loungers available.

I think that it has a lot to do with the people who have the passes. I have had one twice. The first time was on the Epic, and while it was nice, the passengers were kind of standoffish and there wasn't much in the way of conversation or fun. The second time was on the Getaway on a 12 nighter this past November. By the end of the cruise we were all having a grand old time together. People were going out to dinner together after partying up there for most of the day. I guess it didn't hurt that we had 6 sea days on that cruise, or that our bartenders were great as well. Everyone had the UBP and made frequent use of it. The last day was spent with all sort of shots being poured. It was really a blast. I never had more fun on a cruise. :D

Yes, I times it was and you know something it was really really nice. Taking a nap from 11 until noon, getting some large and talking with a bunch of our new friends. All of this without screaming kids and fighting over chairs. My wife and I did ride the slides every day.
