Which best for snorkelling, st.thomas or coco cay

Recommended Posts

Hi all

On our first carribean cruise in freedom at the end if August. Just looking through excursions etc we are thinking about booking snorkelling/sailing trip at st Thomas - but is coco cay good for snorkelling?! Because there is lots of other things to do in st Thomas but don't want to miss snorkelling at the right place but in the other hand don't want to just go snorkelling at both ports? We wanted to do the waverunner tour at coco cay and then probably the water park, but should we make sure we snorkel at coco cay?? Thanks all!!

Coco Cay is OK for snorkeling, but there are many more options for snorkeling around St. Thomas.

Remember that weather and sea conditions can determine whether snorkeling is great or terrible at any place on any day. Apart from that, St. Thomas has better snorkeling than Coco Cay - especially if you will do a day sail snorkel excursion in St Thomas. One problem with Coco Cay can be whether they let you snorkel to the left of Snorkel Beach, past the partial rock walls, into the deeper area. There is better snorkeling there, but that area often is closed off and I do not know how often they let you swim there. Of course, there can be the problem of even being able to tender to Coco Cay because of weather conditions. If you definitely want to try to get some good snorkeling - you probably should snorkel at first place you visit, if conditions are good. Of course, if it were us, we would snorkel both places. Our favorite snorkeling day sail in St Thomas is with Mike on Island Girl - the advantage of Island Girl is that it is moored in Charlotte Amalie Harbor near the cruise dock. If you get a taxi to Red Hook, there are lots of day sail excursions available.

Coki beach from the beach. Get a boat out to Buck Island if possible for the reserve. Truk Bay on St John also accessible from St Thomas but best through ship. Best is the wall on St Croix.

Have not heard of the wall on St. Croix. Is that a ship excursion?

Oh man - St Thomas hands down. Head to Coki Beach. Best snorkelling I've ever seen.

What they said. Very easy and good snorkeling right off the beach.

Happy Sails to You

In St Thomas take the excursion to St John and snorkel at Trunk Bay. Amazing! They also have a snorkel trail there underwater for you to follow. We have done it twice. Google it! Happy snorkeling !!
