Millennium Review - March 2016

I think if you have cruised on an S class ship then board an M class unless you have done your homework it can be a bit of a shock as they are so different in style...Because both are X ships people expect them to be the same. I think this is one of the main reasons M class ships often get bad reviews...people board expecting an S class ship but a bit smaller!

We prefer the S class but cruise on M class when we see an itinerary we like (Hong Kong - Singapore next year). We know the M class, will not be put off by her age, there are some suite rooms we prefer on this ship so that is a bonus and adds variety to our cruising experiences. We also like the indoor pool, Michael's Club....We board knowing what to expect, strengths and weaknesses.

Re missing ports, always frustrating but when you board a ship anywhere in the world with any company you have to accept changes made and make the most of the rest of your cruise...

Hope the refurb will refresh her! Will be looking out for reviews on the Hong Kong Singapore cruise - enjoyed your comments Mickey 22 and look forward to yours Birabbit!

The April 15, 2016 sailing will be our 19th Celebrity cruise and our 5th on the Millie. All have been excellent overall experiences.

When a ship enters dry dock it is either for repairs, upgrading and/or refurbishment. Knowing these facts I do expect to see some wear but hopefully not enough to affect our expected overall excellent experience with another Celebrity booking. Those of you with later bookings should find a new-like ship! :)

Bangkok, Thailand overnight. First day we went to Samed Island for a beach and snorkeling day. Next day we did a full day tour of Pattaya including an elephant ride, botanical gardens and show.

We chose not to go into Bangkok but spoke to people who did, it was a 3 hour bus ride each way, some felt it was worth it and some did not.

Singapore, Plenty to do, had a Singapore Sling at Raffles, rode the HoHo bus, saw the view from Marina Bay Sky Park and spent an entire morning walking around Chinatown.

We had a wonderful time and the weather was great, no rain but very hot. Let me know if you need any other information.

Thanks for your comments. We are on the Christmas cruise, similar itinerary to yours and are looking forward to seeing the refurbished Millie ;). We plan to stay overnight in Bangkok and have booked a private tour to see as much as possible. We don't dock until 10am (ish), so it wouldn't be worth travelling that far to come virtually straight back ;). Did you visit Koh Samui on your itinerary?

No we did not get to Koh Samui on this trip.

Also wanted to mention that we ate in Bistro on 5, Qsine , and Olympic, twice in each. Food and service were great. During dry dock Olympic is changing to Tuscan Grill. Sorry to see it go but Tuscan is a favorite.

Hi Jane,

How was the HK to Singapore itinerary because we are looking to cruise from 12/21-1/2.:)

Bob

We did the reverse itinerary back in Dec 12, it was Millennium's inaugural SE Asia cruise and apart from a few hiccups was amazing and definitely worth doing.

Below is a link to our photos from the cruise.

What amazing photos - so excited to be visiting these places - thanks for posting Jenny! Can't believe how quiet our roll call is so post away as it's keeping it alive! [emoji2]

Think the above post was meant for our roll call :D, but was in response to my attaching Newport Dave's super photo link (hope you didn't mind, Dave) - so big thanks Dave for whetting our appetite :).

Dave,

Did you take all X's tours? Wasn't sure if the Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) tour was escorted or a ship transport only and then did your own thing? The peak tram is a definite on our 'to do' list in HK - the photos were fabulous :).

Bangkok we did Celebrity on your own overnight' so we were dropped of 1st day and then picked up the afternoon of the 2nd day, booked our own hotel through hotels.com hotels aren't expensive in Bangkok. Saigon we did Celebrity escorted tour can't remember which one. Hue we did a private tour arranged by someone on the roll call. Ha Long bay we did Celebrity tour sailing through limestone kharsts and visited the caves. Hanoi we did Celebrity 'on your own' tour. Hong Kong we did ourselves. Also Singapore is very easy to DIY. We were only there an afternoon and morning as it's where we embarked. We also did a half day tour with Celebrity in Vietnam to a local village/beach area and got to see Vietnam version of Christ the redeemer, can't remember which stop that was at.

Thanks for the added information, much appreciated :). Ours is the reverse of your cruise, so we have more time in HK pre cruise as well as the overnight - plenty of time to explore ;).
