Alaska - Legend - Specific Questions - Last Day / Port - Victoria Fun Shops / Casnio

So not to beat around the bush and get to the point.... How does the Last day play out on a Tracy Arm - Alaska Cruise as it pertains to the Casino / Fun Shops?

 

What I am figuring (haven't found the answer yet) is that the shops and the Casino (not that I will be going that often.... its Alaska!!!) will close early on that last day as the port time is 7:30 PM - Midnight.... then as the next day is Debark that they wouldn't re-open (Maybe the Casino?)

 

I am just asking as I find we do some of the "fun shop" shopping on the last day and if everything closes early then would need to do that earlier.

The reason that I was told is that Canada does not allow gambling while in their waters so the casino is closed and does not re-open for the duration of the cruise. The Fun Shops were also closed at the same time and did not re-open.

We have not sailed on Carnival before and we will be on the legend in June. We sailed on Royal and Celebrity and while in any port the casino's were always closed. It didn't matter which port you were in. It would be really interesting to hear that they would be open while in port in Alaska. Does anyone know if this is true? If so....that would be great!:D

So, I love hold'em and blackjack but Alaska is a whole different THING than a Caribbean cruise. I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone disembark at every Alaska port. For a lot of reasons. The best, by far, salmon I ever had, was in a Thai restaurant in Skagway. When I exclaimed, the waiter said "yes, we just caught it."

I hear you about seeing the sights. We have been to Alaska twice on two different lines and the sights to see are stunning. Although the casino's were closed I can't see not going out and taking everything in. :D

During the cruise, the Fun shops set up sales up on the Lido deck a couple of times. You can get all you need from them those days for sale prices. I think the last sea day the store was packed with people buying the last of everything up until they closed.

 

As far as best shopping and pricing.... Skagway has the best stores right in town, walking distance from ship. We bought clothing there and wished we had bought much more. Prices were cheap and quality good. In fact, every time I wear one of my Alaska shirts, someone stops me to ask about it. Juneau also has some great shops right along the main strip to the ship. Some of the same exact shirts, too. Ketchikan shops were insanely busy so we didn't buy anything there. We spoke with one family on our cruise who said they brought an empty suitcase in order to put all their purchases. Great idea. I wish we had bought a couple of wood carvings in Ketchikan.

 

As far as the casino goes... I never saw it that busy. Most people on the cruise were out seeing the sites, I think. It never seemed busy when I walked by... we aren't gamblers.
