Just off Carnival Breeze...disappointed

The Breeze was my first ship I have cruised on. The only complaint I have with the food was that it was warm. I didn't really like the American Table, but now that I have tried the old menu I can see that there is not much difference. One thing I will say is that there are way to many choices to be so unsatisfied. I absolutely loved Tandoor and I wish I would have had the BBQ. Hell you could have even had Bonsi Sushi. It seems you only went with MDR and Lido and there are so many other options on the Breeze. I hope you have better luck seeking happiness elsewhere; whether that is with Carnival or another cruise line. Good Luck.

Did it ever cross you mind that some people do not like Sushi and Indian food? Because you enjoy it does not mean everyone else likes it.

First impression was bad, would that make anyone want to go back and try again? How many time should they try?

If at first you don't succeed try, try again!

More than once unless it was completely horrible. Which is unlikely.

Easy to give in and be a quitter.

Don't be obtuse.

Of course everyone does not like those things. So what? What's the point?

Plenty of other things to eat, unless you (not you specifically but you in general) just expect what you want and will take your toys home if you don't get what you want.

Then a Cruise would suck food wise.

I like Princess breakfast buffet on Horizon Court. Where else can you get a hot Japanese soup for breakfast. So good. I find Princess much more diverse. They all have the standard potato circles, eggs, french toast. Any time I can get a big bowl of fresh fruit and not have to do all the dicing, I'm a happy camper.

Last night when I was looking for pics to post I ran into my Disney trip photos and it brought back a lot of nice memories. DCL has pros and cons, as do all the ships and cruise lines. And even within cruise lines, some ships are nicer than others. I too need to branch out a bit more, but I find myself "at home" on Carnival ships...maybe because in my younger years when I first started cruising and had limited funds, Carnival was all I basically could afford and it's attraction to younger folks made me always choose them....Now that i can expand a bit more, I will try to branch out.

DCL Fantasy is on my To Do list, as is RC Harmony of the seas....

Would rather do longer cruises but I see your point.

Honestly the food porn of DCL looks OK frankly. Buffet food looks like all buffet food.

Of course not. People in my family don't eat those...but they have Guy's burgers (who will also make veggie burgers btw-my SIL loves them!) Blue

Iguana, NY style deli, Fish fry on some ships, salad bars, Main Dining room, buffet....Seriously, if you can't find something you like to eat on Carnival, then the problem is probably you and not them. Not YOU specifically.

Even DCL is not all bad...while many people agree, their dinners need work, but their breakfasts and lunches are fantastic. I wouldn't discourage anyone to try CCL because of their food as I think it's their highlight...as is there service.

For sure, so would I...I am eyeing the Fantasy, but I like balcony cabins, or oceanviews at the least and a balcony cabin on the Fantasy when school is out will set me back at least 5K.

So, I am debating to go during non peak times and have to take my DD out of school or stick to weekend cruises on the Dream. But short cruises do suck as just when you start to unwind, it's time to pack..but I"ll try not to think about that.

Since I already did Christmas on DCL...I want to try their Halloween on the High Seas, either this Oct or next....I'll wait till final payment and wait till they put out their GT prices or Florida Resident rates. Also, my kid loves their FE program...you give gifts and get gifts from your fellow travelers, it's quite fun. Look into it.

Here is what our door looked like with some decorations. The Fish Extender is on the little fish hook to the right of door. (You can get these made on Etsy, with names of those in your cabin)

Here she is one morning delivering the gifts we made for our fellow cruises in our group.

And here is a small sample of gifts we got...and I even got two small bottles of wine that I enjoyed out on my balcony on Day 2.:D Do no do DCL unless you do the FE group! I can't recommend them enough(if you have kids)!

I did a TR on this cruise on here on the DCL part, but for some reason, all the pics are gone.

From your point of view of course. ;)

I cruise in 3 days and will give mostly honest feedback. What I like I will praise, what I don't like I will pan. :D

Of course I don't mind 2 hour dinner's as it's more civilized to eat slower and to savor the moment. :)

I will just post pics, with the cruise line description of the item. No personal opinion. That should put an end to the snarkery...:p

It's not bad at all...actually, being that I'm not a buffet type person...I have to say, the Disney buffet for breakfast and lunch is a notch above....BUT, they don't have made to order omelettes like Carnival..which I thought was weird..but they DO have eggs benedict that was very good and all you can eat salmon (as a transplanted New Yorker, I like my salmon,CC and bagels for breakfast).....

And after all this talk..I went ahead and booked another Dream cruise for next year for Labor DAy weekend...MY CABIN (the mirror image of 10158 was available...I thought it was a sign, so I booked it!):eek::D

We were on the Breeze in February and yes the scrambled eggs were horrible and they use the same eggs substitute in the omelets but they will make them with real eggs if you ask. Don't really expect great food when we are on a cruise but we really enjoyed the American table menu.

The room steward was very nice but very pushy, he was extremely irritated when we were in our room when he decided that he wanted to service it at 7 am in the morning.

Did you forget to use the "Do Not Disturb" sign? We have never had an issue with a room steward trying to service our stateroom while we were still in it.

I hope you have a better experience the next time you go on a cruise.

I loved the Breeze. I am a foodie. We ate in the MDR and specialty restaurants and always had delicious food. I avoided the buffets, not because I didn't like buffets, but because there's better table service available at no or minimal extra charge.

The one thing that kinda gets me is the room steward thing. I've only been on 3 cruises, but I've never had a room steward trying to get in my room at 7am, and to be honest, never hear anyone else have that happen either. QUOTE]

Probably had their clocks set to San Francisco time and it was really 9am. :)

Princess uses the same 'powdered' egg stuff that Carnival uses for scrambled eggs. Their toast and bagels are also pre-toasted.

Agree that for the most part Princess's buffet is better than Carnival's. Though I did have a bug crawl out of the asparagus in the salad buffet on the Golden.

Princess's MDR menu is uninspiring to us.

I Agree, we said on Caribbean Princess and found the MDR menu to be much more limited than CCL, RCCL or NCL. On CCL, if I don't see anything that I really want or like I can always order a strip steak. Not the best cut or a $50 steak but plenty edible. On Princess their "steak" is Tenderloin Medallions. I tried them and the gravy they pour on it is pretty much what you taste. The CCL changing selections are much more, to me, appetizing than Princess's, but then I am not a Trained Professional Chef, just someone that knows good food when I taste it. :)

I was on the same sailing. In my opinion, I agree with you on the lunch & dinner buffet, but the free lunch at Cucina del Capitano was great (except the bread) and the made to order stations were the best. Breakfast was not the best, but I didn't have trouble finding anything. The first night the MDR was the worst, but it was decent after that. Overall, the cruise was great and the food wasn't a deal breaker to me.

I often get up early on my cruises, and go up for coffee and a Danish at 7am. I have never seen a stewards cart, much less a steward in the hallways at that time. And I have never had one try to get in the room before 9am. Just my experience though.

We have only eaten at the Lido buffet once and buffets are not something I like.... ever. We always do breakfast in the MDR, lunch at guys or someplace else that is not buffet, and dinner in the MDR. Never had a bad meal yet.. a lot of mediocre ones and some great ones. Always have a great time.

We are doing Carnival Breeze this Fall and then Disney next year so will have something to compare it to.

Thanks for your review.

Aside from the issue with the surly steward, everything else about the cruise was enjoyable but the food.

Contrary to what our resident grump wishes to ascribe to responses such as mine, I disregard these types of reviews focused almost singularly on the food. That doesn't mean I am "defending" Carnival; it just means that if you cruise Carnival only for, or choose to exhaustively criticize, the food, you're cruising with the wrong line.

Is the food, at times, mediocre? It most certainly can be. One cannot expect exemplary food quality when the total per-day cost of cruising Carnival can be equal to or less than the cost of one gourmet meal on land.

Carnival, in my opinion, offers adequate (and often times impressive) food and meals comparable to the price point of their fares.

I have never gone hungry on a Carnival cruise. I have found things I liked and things that I didn't - just like in any restaurant or buffet on land. I am more satisfied than dissatisfied with what I find on Carnival and being satisfied doesn't make me a "cheerleader". It just makes me satisfied.

(Added: When someone hasn't cruised with Carnival in years, they shouldn't argue about perceived quality deterioration using the opinions of others. It kind of defeats the purpose of being a critic on whom to rely if the experience wasn't yours.)

Ditto! Well said!

  • 3 months later...

I can understand some of the complaints as I hate my bagel sliced and warm. I also just plain hate breakfast I always go to the MDR for breakfast. Plus the brunch menu includes steak and macaroni and cheese. And I hate buffers buy the pasta and pizza and deli are always good. Esp the Ruben or pastrami I hate ham & cheese. And the dinner choices why not go for a couple of appetizers and desserts and skip the entree if u don't like?

Just off breeze Sunday! By far the best for food on carnival! Sailed the conquest in May and the breeze blew it out of the water! The regular buffet was very good loved the bbq, cantina, and deli! Only complaint I had was the fries at guys were not cooked enough! But beside that I would rate it the best in the fleet out of the 6 ships I've sailed!
