Treated same as regular cigarettes. Not in room. Not on balcony. Restricted to casino (when playing) and designated places on deck.

You can only smoke cigarettes or E-cigs in designated smoking areas, which include multiple areas on various decks outside (not near food or childrens areas), the casino, only if you are playing, and the Cigar bar, if there is one on the ship. They are all pretty well marked, and you will see large ashtrays in the smoking permitted areas. No smoking in room or on balcony.

I do not quite understand their policy that treats e-cigs and regular cigs alike, but that is the policy. I am certain, as my husband still smokes regular cigarettes (yuk) and I smoke e-cigs.

$250 fine for smoking in room or on balcony if you get caught..... and folks on neighboring balconies are quick to report transgressions I have heard (no first hand experience, I follow the rules....)

I think the reason why e-cigs have to be smoked in designated smoking areas is because they look pretty realistic, and people might assume you are smoking a regular cigarette and complain. The receptionist in my office used to smoke her e-cigs while sitting at the front desk answering the phones and greeting visitors, and received several comments from employees and visitors alike. Now she can only do so on her break and in a conference room, lest people assume the office allows smoking.

Yes, my office has the same rules, but I live in a City where there is a local ordinance that prohibits e-cig smoking indoors in commercial space. I also get that people still have many concerns about whether the vapor has toxicities. It only annoys me because I went to great lengths to research and find an e-cig that 1) carried a cartridge that was nicotine-free; and 2) doesn't contain anything that isn't FDA approved for use in food. So, for me, it was just an issue of dealing with the oral fixation. But I understand the issues.

The big issue I have is the chance of them starting a fire, like the one on the Delta flight in the passenger's carry-on. What if it happened in a cabin when the passengers were at dinner.

"During the boarding process of Delta Flight 689 traveling from ATL to STL around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, a customer's bag ignited from an e-cigarette. The bag was safely extinguished with no damage to the aircraft.

One of the managers where I work tends to "vape" near my area. I've looked up and thought something was on fire more than once from the mist it leaves in the air. Mind you it isn't one of those fog machines that you see people using but it does linger around and the smell lingers for a while after he is gone. I have discovered that some of the flavors seem to give me an instant headache so I tend to give him a wide birth.

It is very nice of NCL to offer smoking areas and I don't think it is to much to ask for people to use them. No one wants to be in a room that smells of smoke or oil because of the last person in there.

Because the output of vaping is just water vapor, it's pretty easy to "stealth vape" as long as you're not blowing obvious clouds of vapor into the air. Especially in your cabin/balcony, don't do it in front of your steward and you'll be fine.

There are people also smoking still on their balconies...on my previous sailing there was an antismoker that was chasing them down!!!This guy lost all of his vacation moaning about smokers!!! He even insisted crew to stop everybody from smoking on the designated areas!!!!! I offered him a cigarette!!! He really needed to chill out!!!

The issue is actually more simple. A properly used vaper will produce primarily water residue, however there are no rules on what can go in them, and some of the 'off-market' stuff may leave residue. There are also off-market versions containing certain controlled substances. Also, some of the liquids themselves can be toxic in concentrated form, so limiting their use to certain areas reduces the risk of contamination.

There was an issue in a hotel in Philly where someone spilled a liquid that had a high nicotene content and didn't clean it up. Housekeeper who wasn't wearing gloves as she should wiped up and had a bad reaction to the liquid residue (heart palpitations I think.

Vaping in cabins IS against the rules, but as long as properly handled and used I am not going to get into a snit about it.
