Yes, in order to avoid data charges for roaming, you simply turn your phone on airplane mode and then connect to the ship's wifi. You would have to buy a multi-device package in order to communicate with others through iMessage on the ship.

As long as each device has a package at the same time. They sell packages with a variety of device amounts. I.e. if only one person in the group buys a 1 device package, then no, you cannot message each other. But if more than 1 person buys a 1 device package, you can. However, it is beneficial to buy a multi-device plan as they often offer discounts.

one last question: If you take the VOOM surf voyage internet package can you message somebody at home with either KICK or WHATS APP? or do you need to take the more expensive one for that.

You should be able to send text messages (no video) with the less expensive package.

Exactly...you shouldn't need the more expensive package for streaming if you just want to message via 'text' and not video. No Facetime or streaming Netflix, etc.

Hi, Current sale going on for their internet packages which has been discounted. also try their Royal IQ app option.. If you just want to text on the ship (to the passengers in your party) for just texting , no internet needed on ship. app is 14.95 per phone.

When I was on Anthem in May, I purchased the less expensive Voom and I was able to FaceTime to home.
