Allure Formal Dinning

Recommended Posts

I am in a suit and tie everyday and when I go on vacation, I really do not want to be in one again (let alone having to pack it). My question; if I choose not to dress up for the formal nights, is it best to just go to the other dinning options or will they be 'formal' also?

I saw a lot of people in slacks and polo shirts during formal night in the Oasis MDR last week. Actually I saw a bunch of people in jeans, and not a few in shorts. You won't get turned away for anything except maybe showing up in a wet swimsuit without a shirt or something.

Formal night is only "encouraged" (as meaningless as that term is as applied) in the MDR. The other restaurants are there if you don't want to dress up without going against "encouragement."

You can go to any restaurant in casual clothes. No dress suggestions are enforced.

We are just off the Adventure this past Sat.. Dress in the MDR was VERY casual with lots of shorts at dinner for both men and women. However, one member of our party was turned away on formal night because he was wearing shorts! He returned with very ( IMO) "ratty" looking jeans on and was allowed to enter the MDR. Personally, I thought the shorts looked better!

I feel your pain and agree 100000000%. Cruises are awesome, with the exception of having to dress up. I wear a suit and tie every day as well and want to have nothing to do with that on vacation. Wear what you want wherever you want. I will be on the Allure in June and will wear trousers with either a polo or button down shirt, depending on the night. Even that is over-dressed for my type of vacation, but I think shirts and flip flops might be pushing it. I posted this same question few weeks ago. Same feedback, supported by most and blasted by a few people who felt my lack of a tie would disrupt their dining experience. Wear what you want and enjoy your cruise!

  • 2 weeks later...

My husband HATES dressing up for dinner on a cruise. He thinks khakis are too dressy so he wears pressed jeans and a pressed button down shirt and leaves it untucked but buttoned with dress shoes. I think it looks really nice and it makes him feel more comfortable. I, on the other hand, work from home and I'm in sweats or pajama pants with t-shirts all the time so I look forward to dressing up.

As others have said dress as you wish. But if you think you might feel uncomfortable, Specialty Restaurants are casual all the time. They do not do Formal Night. So it's always an option. But no one says anything anyway.

However the posted rule is NO shorts in the MDR for dinner. The poster who had a friend turned away for not following the posted rule, then only to return in "ratty" jeans.... IMHO a bit of an "in your face Royal Caribbean" reaction. Oh well, wonder if he made his point (whatever that was)?

Was in Allure last week and on formal nights people were in shorts, baseball caps, t-shirts. Probably a 30/70 super casual to formal ratio of guests.

Yup. I saw shorts in the MDR on both formal nights and all the other nights on the Allure.

Wear what makes you comfy. It's your vacation!

What can men wear in The Grande. Is a dress shirt and tie fine or must you pack a jacket?

I've read that they will give you a jacket to wear as you walk into the restaurant, but apparently you can take it off anytime you like.
