How is wine brought on ship from ports in the Mediterranean handled - corkage

Fee or not? Thanks for any info.

They hold it and return it on the last night.

Well that's the official word, not always strictly applied.

I don't believe that there is an official written position. The Passage Contract only states that "You agree to surrender alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop, or at ports of call..." Although it may just be semantics, most wine you purchase in port is not duty free. On our Med cruise, in addition to Embarkation in Barcelona, we brought wine on board in Toulon and Naples with no issue but we were prepared to pay the $15 corkage which we did when we brought some of the bottles to the DR.

When I have plans of buying wine at the port, I always ask the security at the gangway if I will pay corkage.. In Barcelona, I was not charged.

That was our experience in European ports & we never had a problem bringing wine onboard & never attempted to conceal it. In prior discussions it's been posted that Princess realizes passengers want to enjoy wines not available on the ship while cruising in Europe. On our cruise in Barcelona there was a wine shop after port security & no additional screening by Princess.
