Rare Turtles06 Posted May 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Is a Visitor's Permit (FMM -- Forma Migratoria Multiple) needed for U.S. citizen cruise ship passengers with port calls in Mexico? I've read some conflicting info, and haven't yet been able to get through by phone to our nearest Mexican consulate, so I thought I'd at least ask the experts here. Thanks! cruisinitaliano Posted May 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2016 Just have your passports and you are set. Actually, we have NEVER had to show them anywhere in Mexico. BUT>> if there were to be an emergency while you were off the ship, and needed to get home quickly, you would need them. We almost never take them with us anymore while in port. I should follow my advise and start doing so, as my health deteriorates, I may be in a situation some day. 15 yrs ago we needed to life flight my Dad to San Diego from Cabo. One never knows what may happen. Safe sailings.. Many Blessings
Rare Hlitner Posted May 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2016 No, you do not need it if you are simply on a cruise. But if you fly into Mexico (or drive) you do need to complete the form. The norm has been to distribute the forms on aircraft and then they stamp them upon arrival as you clear immigration. You then receive a small white receipt which you must keep with your Passport and turn it in upon departure (the airline counters collect them during the check-in process). This system has now been made more complex by an attempt by Mexico to implement a new online system. This new system seems to be full of problems...so for now we plan on sticking with the old paper form (we live in Mexico during the winter).
