Cruise Ship Route

I'm cruising to Alaska aboard the Carnival Legend. We're doing a Seattle-Seattle route to Glacier Bay. I was wondering if anyone knows which route the ship takes around Vancouver Island as it heads both North and South? We have a portside balcony. We're curious if we'll have a land view as we head North or not.

Thanks

Itineraries from Seattle will sail up thru Puget Sound, out into the Pacific thru the Strait of Juan de Fucia then up the west side of Vancouver Is. You will likely enter the inside passage north of Vancouver Is. via Queen Charlotte Sound. While on the west side of Vancouver Is. both northbound and southbound there will be no scenery.

That's what I was thinking based on the past reports.

Thanks for your help and the quick reply!

So is it like Oregon where the ships sail 30 miles off shore where Vancouver Island is beyond the horizon?

Hmm.... just went to http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-126/centery:49/zoom:8 looking at the Crown and the Jewel's path... they appear to travel about 20 to 30 miles away from shore.

It is possible to see some land on the first sea day leaving Seattle. However, as others have said, the weather usually doesn't cooperate, and you're quite a bit offshore. If you're lucky, though, you might see some land that day. Here's a photo passing north Vancouver Island:

And a bit later in the day, we caught a glimpse of the Queen Charlotte Islands:

Hmm.... I guess there is one bonus to Vancouver departures..... cell service between Vancouver and Port Hardy while enjoying the inside passage's scenery.

You don't need to be on the ships internet to communicate with home.

Hmmm, not sure what that has to do with the question asked by the OP or any subsequent responses ....
