Going to cash acct vs cc acct

Recommended Posts

We have a 7 night with friends planned next year and will set up an acct with our Credit Card but plan to pay with cash the final night for the first time. We pre pay my husbands beer package and are not buying as much as we used to thus reducing our on board spending.

I would recommend against setting up a CC account if you plan on paying with the cash. The holds will be in your account, sometimes for a couple of weeks after you have closed out the account with cash. If you have the cash, deposit it as required. Even if you end up paying with a credit card at the end, you can still do so on a cash account without the regular holds happening.

Off Freedom on the 19th the last hold just dropped off CC acct. And a new $50 charge just appeared, which has since been reversed as it was an error I had to deal with. Still waiting to get money back on a gift that never got delivered as they had no record of it on board. Asked for that correction on 6/20 and still waiting.

Due to Brexit, I rushed out and bought dollars at a good rate. Ive pre paid tips and all excursions etc - so on the ship I just need to pay for my drink package upgrade. Can I leave my credit card on file, then just pay some cash to cover the drink bill?

I dont want to take much other cash, so will need to leave the cc on file for other incidentals. Holds dont matter as I dont us the card anyway :)

Yes, you can add cash to your account anytime you like.
