taxi from hotel to athens port

any ideas how much a taxi from a hotel in plaka area to port should cost? i'm trying to decide if i should hire a taxi service for the 4 of us or just take a regular taxi from the hotel.

A regular taxi to the port from a hotel in the Plaka should be around 20-25 euro. But keep in mind that the average-size Athens taxi can't handle four people and their luggage, assuming you have four medium to large suitcases and four carry ons (one suitcase/carry-on per person).

 

You could talk to your hotel management about arranging for a larger taxi, or just arrange a private driver.

We booked through Spiros for a reasonable rate to get from our hotel to the port. His company is rated well on Tripadvisor, and you don't have to prepay.

We just returned from Athens but in the reverse order. Our ship disembarked in Piraeus and we prearranged pickup with George's Taxi Service. I got very prompt responses and both times we used him the taxi was early. We also had a five hour tour included before dropping us off at our hotel. We were able to see most of the sights plus getting information on Greece as well. The car was a MB and was very clean. We also used him to take us to the airport at 3 am which incurred an extra cost due to the hour. George has larger vehicles which should accommodate you. We paid in euros but he does take credit cards but there is an extra charge to do so which is fairly common. We had a very good experience and highly recommend his company. He lived many years in the US and his English is very good.
