Seattle: Which Link Light Rail station?

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Seattle (211 Dexter Avenue North) and would like to arrive from SeaTac Airport via Link Light Rail. We will walk from station to hotel. Should we get off at Westlake or University of Washington station?

For the return, we will walk directly from Pier 66 to Link Light Rail station for travel to SeaTac Airport. Which Link Light Rail station should we walk to for the return trip?

Sorry.....I don't know the answer, but its a great question. I didn't know you could take the light rail to SEATAC. Heading to Seattle for an Alaska cruise next year and I am a newbie. Searching for any and all info.

Arriving, get off at Westlake, followed by about a mile's walk. Note the Holiday Inn is in a very trafficky area, and the walk there is not especially inspiring.

Alternatively, you can ride the monorail (upstairs at the Westlake Center, above the light rail station) which will take you to Seattle Center (foot of the Space Needle) from which the Holiday Inn is about five blocks.

From Pier 66, Westlake Station is again the closest, around 3/4 of a mile. Use the Bell St. skybridge up to First, then down First to Pine St.

Getting to the hotel via light rail will require quite a bit of walking. Your hotel is near the Seattle Center area which is not serviced by light rail.

2 options that I can think of:

1. easiest. Disembark at Westlake and find a cab $10.

2 disembark at Westlake, walk to the monorail entrance also at Westlake. Disembark at Space Needle, then walk several blocks to your hotel. Problem will be crossing hwy 99.

Look at the hotel map to get your bearings.

Westlake is 4th and Pine. Your hotel is Dexter and John.

Getting to Westlake from pier 66 is also a hike of several blocks. When you disembark the ship, walk across the street to the Marriott. Outside you'll find an elevator that will take you up the worst part of the hill. You'll end up around Lenora and 1st. Walk about 4 blocks south and you'll end up at the Market, which is pine and 1st. Then walk up pine to 4th, Westlake Center.

And keep in mind that Seattle is hilly and often wet.

The answer really depends on how many people and how much luggage you have. personally, I would get off at Westlake and then catch a cab/uber to get to the hotel.

Once again cab/uber from pier 66 to pioneer square/international district (less congestion).

Its walkable but not ideal, especially if its raining in Seattle. It never does that right?

  • 3 weeks later...

We used light rail last week. Airport to/from Bell St Pier. Worked well. Fare was $3 pp each way. Took maybe just over an hour (airport to the pier) Make sure you use elevator to get up to the Pike Pl Market on the return trip (or you will die LOL). We used the University St station (as was recommended on the Link Light Rail site...but we're a little familiar with Seattle so I'm sure the Westgate station would also work out just fine

If nothing else, you do NOT want the University of Washington station. You could consider the University STREET station, but they are absolutely two totally different things. If you stay on the train until UW, you're looking at miles and bridges to get back to your hotel. ;)

Go to west lake center on the light rail. The walk is ok, but if you want to have fun, head up to the fourth floor of the mall right above the light rail station and take the monorail to Seattle center. The holiday inn is three blocks from the monorail station at Seattle center.
