mamaboss & JF - retired RRT,

Thanks for the quick responses. Now I'll just wait to hear from someone who has received casino cash to see how it works.

Thanks,

Rob (Sandy's DH)

I just went to the casino when we boarded Emerald Princess this past March and they handed me $650! In cash. Wonderful wonderful.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread rather than starting a new one. In the past, upon presenting a letter on a subsequent cruise, you would receive the amount specified in the letter in cash. This week I received an invitation to book one of the designated VIP cruises listed in the mailer. It came with a lot of perks, the same previously published discounts on cruise fares (between 5 - 35% off depending on region and cabin category), and $175 in casino cash that would be payable in the form of free play. We did end up taking advantage of it and booked the last cruise shown on the mailer which is in January. I don't know if they are still offering true casino cash but will certainly ask about the current offers when we board the Star next week.

Muggo,

How did they know that you qualified for the casino cash? Did you have to show anything besides identification? Or, was it simply flagged on your shipboard account somehow? The promotional material I received has a voucher that states something to the effect of, "Bring this voucher to the casino to collect your casino cash". I can't believe they would hand over cash to someone simply for presenting a voucher. If so, what would stop someone from printing a copy of the voucher each time they cruised, whether they booked under a casino promotion or not? I've tried to get answers to my questions about these kinds of specifics but the Princess casino reservations line just refers me to the Ocean Players Club. The OPC phone line just has a recording and they don't even allow you to leave a voicemail. And, all of my e-mails have gone unanswered. Hoping the community here can give me the answers that Princess and OPC can't or don't seem to want to give.

Thanks in advance to any/all who can offer up their experiences.

The vouchers I have received in the past (I'm looking at one now) list my name and CC#, along with an expiration date, a 9-digit code and lots of fine-print legalese. So I'm guessing they are covered against any attempt to print duplicates, unless you received something different?

The relationship between the OPC and the Princess casino reservations staff seems unclear. I have had one refer me to the other without answering questions I have had first. Both have failed to return phone calls and/or emails at times for me as well.

I would think that I could call one or the other with questions about any current or upcoming offers, but all Princess will tell me is to wait for a snail-mail flyer or an email for any offers. When I once got through to OPC, via email, they gave me an "offer" amounting to far less than those that eventually did come in flyers.

I suspect there is a computer algorithm that comes up with offers that live staff have no access to or control over. I have dealt with credit card issuers that seem to operate the same way. Very frustrating to say the least!

I mentioned the offer and the code when I booked my cruise. So I was in whatever system they have when I checked in. I had my voucher and ID with me as well but they had me on a list on a clipboard.

I am surprised at the lack of email response. I just submitted an email over the weekend for casino credit on my August cruise and they called me today to confirm the amount.

That is all I know. Good luck

There's so many different offers and they seem to morph frequently. For the last letter that I received for my play on the last cruise, I sent an email to this address to confirm that I would be eligible for the $$ on our cruise next week: casino@princess.com

I received a prompt response from this email address: casino@carnival.com

Was your email addressed to one of these? Hopefully they will get back to you and answer the questions you have.

Thanks for the info, SoCal Cruiser78, muggo11, and azbirdmom.

I have tried casino@princess.com and casino@carnival.com with no response. I was also told to try casino@princesscruises.com by one of the agents I spoke with. No reply from that one either. However, today I was able to finally talk to an agent on the casino reservations line (referred by the recording when I called OPC) who seemed to know what she was doing. She was able to confirm that the casino cash is showing on my reservation. She suggested that I try to find the original snail mail flyer that was sent since that should have the required code on it. I think that was probably tossed in the trash long ago so she said I should at least print out the reminder e-mail and bring that with me. The fact that she was able to look up my reservation in the system and see the offer applied makes me feel a lot better. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly.

Thanks again to everyone for your insights and comments.

Reading this thread and that made me look at my husband's casino discount offer. We got it in an email and I can't find any expiration date on it. We did use it to book a November cruise and now I'd like to book something for Jan/Feb.

Guess I'll have to call my TA to find out if it is still in effect.

Is there a difference between the Casino Rate and the special Casino flyers? We received a casino flyer in the mail for my husband with special rates and perks listed (Casino cash, special reception, etc.) with certain cruise dates specified. We had booked one of those cruises but had to switch dates due to some logistics. We did still qualify for the casino rate on our new cruise but should we still anticipate getting the perks?

Thanks,

Erin

The casino rate discounted the fares anywhere between 5 - 35% off depending upon the cabin and cruise booked. These newer offers with the perks seem to be only for specific cruises. Anything can happen I suppose but I suspect that the cruise you switched to would only qualify for the discount. You might want to contact the casino area to ask though.

The most recent one I received was also for select cruises only, with 5% to 35% off as well. I also received an offer a few months ago good for an entirely free 7-night Caribbean on either the Regal or the Royal (can't remember), but it was just for one sailing date that didn't appear to be selling well.

My most recent flyer said it was good "on select voyages when you book by 7/6/16". Elsewhere in the flyer it said it was only for select voyages between Sept. 2016 and April 2017. It seems there are different types of offers issued, so it doesn't hurt to ask about yours :).

How do you get these special casino rates? I spend a lot of time in the casino but I must admit that I normally (9 out of 10) times walk away a winner....does that count against you? Last time I put in $50. the last night while I was waiting on my husband and hit for $1600. That was after I had already cashed out my card for the cruise at a winnings of over $700 for the entire cruise.

Do you have to put mega bucks into the machines? I must admit, I start with $100. and if I win I cash out then play on their money the rest of the time. But I do play a lot.

You must have won the money I left behind on my last cruise :)! Seriously, though, I was told once by a Princess casino staffer that they track players in a similar way to land-based casinos. In other words, it is how much in total you wager (or "circulate") through slots or via table gaming, not how much you win. They figure if you play enough, the house will eventually come out ahead.

In your case, how you were casino "rated" on your cruise will depend on how long you played with your initial $100 bet. You acquire points that show on the slot machines, if you happened to notice. If you played for hours, or days, on that $100, you might have accumulated enough points to get an offer. If you just played for a few minutes here and there, you probably won't have.

Exactly how many points are required to gain offers seems to vary, like many things on Princess. Some pax say they have received offers after relatively little play, others say they have played heavily and never received an offer. Wish I could give you a more certain answer :)!

For our last several cruises they have had point ranges and the starting point has varied on the length of the cruise. For example, 1000 points earned was the minimum for our recent 4 day cruise and 4000 points was the minimum for the 10 day cruise before that.

There are typically different rewards for every thousand points earned above that threshold and the early stages tend to give you cash back on your next cruise booked within a prespecified period after the cruise. At the higher stages you may get a free cruise. I've never gambled enough to get there and from what I understand from a host that threshold is way higher than what I would gamble. And they also can comp you drinks, a bottle of wine, dinner in Crown Grill, chocolate covered strawberries, etc. based on your points as well.

1 point is earned after betting an accumulated $3 on a slot machine so when you bet $3, you see 1 point appear on your machine. There are also discount and VIP offers that are mailed or emailed and those seem to come in the mail or email from corporate. I don't know criteria those use.

I always ask the casino host what the minimum points are to earn awards when I have cruised in the past. We're boarding the Star in 6 days and I will be sure to post here after we return.

I am going a cruise with the casino offer and have been offered casino "cash"...but no where in my reservation is a mention of casino cash or voucher. Is the voucher left in your stateroom?

My last cruise people were unhappy because they wouldn't give them money offered because they didn't bring the offer letter. That just seems a little unfair....

I don't know how the vouchers work. But the letter has to be presented in order to get the casino cash. They take the letter and then need to validate it before they give you the $$. I've probably turned in half a dozen and they always tell me that it's a good thing I remembered to take the letter because so many others don't turn them in. I keep it with the rest of my cruise documents so that it won't be forgotten.

I've always had a hardcopy letter or voucher to bring with me on a casino rate cruise. I've either been given an offer letter by the casino towards the end of a previous cruise, redeemable on a following cruise, or been snail-mailed a flyer that had a voucher attached. When I have received an email offer, it has been a follow-up to a snail-mail offer.

Was this an email only offer, with no letter or voucher sent or given to you? If so, I would try to get the casino reservation people to email you something in writing with the cash offer to bring with you.
