7 Day Alaska (7/24/16) - Upsell offer. Opinions please

Got an upsell offer to go from our currently booked obstructed ocean view (OZ category) to a premium balcony (B1 category) for $249 per person. There 2 of us in the room so it'd be ~$500.

I checked prices. We paid $759 per person for the OZ room (had a casino discount applied to get that price). Current price of the B1 category is $1,889 per person (no idea if our casino discount would apply to this price and if so, what our price would be).

What are people's thoughts on this offer?

If you're a balcony person and can swing the $500, I'd jump all over it. But, then again, I have booked at least a balcony of every cruise I've ever taken. As for the "is it a good deal" question, you're looking at about $2k all in for a balcony cabin that is currently offered at nearly $3800. I'd call that a pretty good discount.

I'm sure by the time I post this, someone else will come by and tell you to save your money for an excursion.

Everyone is different. Some people like having balconies and spend lots of time on them (I know I do). Others say they'd prefer to be elsewhere on the ship and only sleep in their rooms. Only you can decide what the value is to YOU, and decide if it's worth it.

Having just gotten back from our Alaska cruise, I wouldn't dream of *not* having a balcony. Dealing with the mobs up top wouldn't be worth the savings. I had to deal with a bunch of people when we first got to Marjerie Glacier, but once we were in front of the glacier I just went to my cabin, turned the television up on the position channel (46? 47?) so I could hear the naturalist and took pictures to my heart's content.

We had a balcony and it was fun being on deck at o'dark thirty with everyone and the awesome scenery

At the front on the ship it is quite a head-on experience

Bring some warm things and binocs

And get there early. Once you get close to Marjerie it's next to impossible to wade through the crowd. It's so cool (pun intended) to see the glacier as it comes into view, though.

Congrats on getting an offer you wanted. I probably would have taken it too. It's not so much the difference in price, but rather the overall price of the cruise. You're paying less for your balcony than we did for an obstructed view on our first cruise to Alaska fifteen years ago.
