Dress code

It's been a number of years since we've cruised on Royal and I'm wondering what the dress code is for dinner. Are there still formal nights or is every night "smart casual" in the MDR?

There are still formal nights on all but Quantum class's ships. You may find that Formal is more relaxed than you have seen in the past, although In my experience there is still a large number of people that dress up.

On Quantum class they have a restaurant, Grande, that is always formal. No ship-wide formal nights.

The other nights in the MDR are casual, and specialty restaurants are always smart casual.

Since it's been a while since you've cruised on Royal, you may want to sit down for a bit and read their website. There's actually a heap of useful information on it that may go a long way in bringing you back up to speed again.

Smart casual is acceptable everywhere on every ship, all the time.

Formal nights still exist on most ships (Not on Empress, Quantum, Ovation, Anthem) but they are not like formal from years past and what you will see will be very mixed and varied. Up through 13 night cruises there will be only 2 formal nights on the ships that still have them.
