Sailboat rescue, live from Grandeur

Recommended Posts

About two hours ago the captain announced that we were asked by the Coast Guard to help a sail boat that was in trouble. We turned completely around and after an hour's sail, we have the boat tied up along side of us. Not sure what will happen next. The 20 ft. or so boat is in very bad shape. May have been thru a storm last night. Looks like we are now about 250 miles east of Norfolk. We most likely will be late arriving in Baltimore tomorrow. Will keep you posted after we get official news.

The sailboat has shoved off after receiving fuel from us. It looks in very bad shape, but evidently worthy of sailing. His sails have been completely destroyed. The Captain just made an announcement that he expects us to arrive tomorrow by 8a.m.

Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully, the sailboat will make it back okay and our ship will be ready for boarding not too late.

If you have a chance, could you please post any updates or what time you've docked tomorrow?

Thanks!

A father and his three children are missing off the west coast of Florida near Fort Myers. This was just on the news.........when I clicked on your post, I thought it was them.

Prayers to everyone.

It has been reported on the local news that they have found one body. But...we also have a missing swimmer for the week end. Still holding out hope for a safe rescue.

Keep the prayers coming.

One last parting thought on this incident. A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules was orbiting above during this whole process. They kept in contact with the sail boat and Grandeur continuously. After all was well, and the sail boat shoved off with fuel and provisions, the C-130 did a 250 (+-) ft. fly over of Grandeur, thanking her for her help and response to the scene.

And, USCG, thanks to you for all you do.
