Pumbaamd Posted June 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2016 About two hours ago the captain announced that we were asked by the Coast Guard to help a sail boat that was in trouble. We turned completely around and after an hour's sail, we have the boat tied up along side of us. Not sure what will happen next. The 20 ft. or so boat is in very bad shape. May have been thru a storm last night. Looks like we are now about 250 miles east of Norfolk. We most likely will be late arriving in Baltimore tomorrow. Will keep you posted after we get official news. Rick and Deirdra

Pumbaamd Posted June 22, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted June 22, 2016 The sailboat has shoved off after receiving fuel from us. It looks in very bad shape, but evidently worthy of sailing. His sails have been completely destroyed. The Captain just made an announcement that he expects us to arrive tomorrow by 8a.m. Rick and Deirdra

PCWalton1 Posted June 23, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 23, 2016 in 2014 on Rhapsody in route to Hawaii we did the same thing. Gave fuel, water and food to a sailboat crew that had broken their mast. This was midway between Hawaii and the mainland.

Pumbaamd Posted June 25, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted June 25, 2016 One last parting thought on this incident. A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules was orbiting above during this whole process. They kept in contact with the sail boat and Grandeur continuously. After all was well, and the sail boat shoved off with fuel and provisions, the C-130 did a 250 (+-) ft. fly over of Grandeur, thanking her for her help and response to the scene. And, USCG, thanks to you for all you do. Rick and Deirdra
