Booking on board and paying deposit with gift cards

Don't think you can do this. I asked and the future cruise specialist said the deposit for the future cruise gets charged directly to the credit card they have for your account, but not to your S&S account. I have gotten many AARP gift cards with the 10% off but am figuring how many more to get if I can only pay off the cruise with them but not the deposit.

 

(I know I can redeem gc through the casino but dont want to have that much cash with me, leaving the ship, traveling through the airport.)

You CAN use gift card(s)-I did on the Glory in April for my Conquest September cruise.

The future cruise loyalty desk "experts" don't always know all of the rules. Hope this doesn't happen to us next January on Conquest as I also have AARP discounted GCs that I plan to use for my deposits on 2 cruises.

You can call anytime before final payment and have the deposit refunded to your credit card by giving them your gift card numbers.

This is true, I took 3 gift cards with me on my last cruise to book next year's cruise. You DO NOT apply these to your S&S account though. Hold on to them and take them directly to the future cruise desk and then they can use them. If they have been applied to your S&S account, you can't use them, even if the funds are still available on the account. I don't know why that rule is in place, but it is.

I booked last week while on a cruise, and the gal at the future cruise desk was able to enter my gift card right there at her desk. Nothing on my sign & sail account at all. Just have your gift card with you when you go to book.

I did this in December when I booked this year's cruise. Just told the person at the FC desk what I wanted to do, handed over the physical gift cards ... no problems.

 

I'm sure if you just ask them how the deposit gets paid, they don't bother to tell you that you can use gift cards. They just give you the usual explanation of it being applied to your credit card.

 

BTW ... if you forget and apply all of your gift cards to your S&S account, just pop into Cherry on Top and purchase gift cards with your S&S card. Problem solved :)

I was going to do this for our cruise next year but asked about our cruise next month and they took the gift cards and refunded the credit card. So even though it is well after final payment they were fine with this! Got to go out and earn more gift cards now for next year's cruise:)
