Confused re tips???

Recommended Posts

Morning hoping I can get some good advice on here.. So am I correct in thinking we pre pay gratuities for waiters etc , have a select drinks package included but every time we order a drink we get charged 15% tip?? So technically the drinks package isn't free after all? We have cruised on THOMSON cruises twice all Inclusive and this meant exactly that, all inclusive you didn't pay any thing extra for drinks on Board you only paid for photos nice restaurant and casinos etc. The price of the holiday is alot of money for us and although we will manage to pay it when onboard we won't have hellish much money to be spending on anything X

All help and advice great fully appreciated lesley X

The purchase price of your drinks package INCLUDES gratuities. You don't have to tip any more for your drinks.

Gratuity is only added to drinks when you do NOT have a package.

When you go to a bar most beers are covered by the Select Package, but if you want wine ask them what wines they have covered in your package.

Don't feel forced or let them persuade you to buy anything outside your package unless you want to.

You don't have to spend an extra penny if you don't want to.

To answer your other question: yes, you are correct. If you have prepaid your gratuities, then you have already taken care of the waiters and your cabin steward. No additional tip is necessary (unless you want to). If you haven't prepaided, then a daily gratuity charge will be added to your onboard account to cover the waiters and the steward. The charge is the same, either way. Some people like to pay before the cruise so they have one less thing to worry about, and other people like to pay onboard so they can use any onboard credit they might have to pay for it.

you do NOT have to prepay gratuities any longer but if you did it includes all waitstaff and housekeeping staff for the duration, no matter where you eat on board in an included venue(if you choose to dine in a specialty venue the fee charged also includes the gratuity).

as for drink packages: if you have one there is NO requirement to tip on top of that. the price you paid included the gratuity for the duration. even if it was a perk as part of your booking, you will NOT be charged 18% of the value of the drink you order.

the only thing that you would have to consider tipping for as you go is Room service, which is not covered under any listed fee.
