what's the deal with green thunder on the Pride?

I saw a report that it wasn't working last week & was closed. Seems to be happening quite a bit over the year & a half it's been in service. I enjoyed it immensely my last cruise, and would be a little bummed if it wasn't functioning come this Sunday! not that it would make or break my trip, but it's quite a rush. Especially after a few miller lites. I'm just perplexed why they can't get it fixed and keep it fixed, and have a plan of action should something go wrong with it while cruising.

It was operating I think one day on our cruise last week (6/26 sailing), then down the rest of the week. I did see a dude working on it intermittently. The attendant on the yellow slide said the Green Thunder door wasn't working right when I asked him about it on Wednesday, June 29.

Was working intermittently on the June 5 sailing. Trap door wouldn't open. Seems the attendant would reset it and it would work for awhile then stopped working again. Got to ride it a couple of times, thankfully. Hope they get the bugs fixed for future cruises.

A friends is onboard the Pride now and he said it was down a cpl days ago, I'll ask him if it is still down and if he has heard anymore about it.

Edit. He says it is still down.

Well crap! We are sailing on her in a few weeks. The last time we sailed on her, the kiddie section was closed. I am not one to complain but we want to enjoy ALL the amenities that we are paying for.

Sorry to ask a dumb question but . . . what is green thunder?

It's what is known as a "drop" slide. You start standing on top of a trap door, which when it opens, releases you into the water slide. I believe Green Thunder has a 34 foot drop, and is found on 3 of the four Spirit class ships sailing for Carnival (Pride, Spirit, Legend) although 2 of the 3 ships sail primarily in Australia.

Disney Cruise Line's AquaDunk (not AquaDuck, the water coaster) is the same type of slide. The tallest drop slide on land that I am aware of is in Louisville, Kentucky at Kentucky Kingdom, at 121 feet.

Thanks for explaining! I've sailed on the Pride but I don't remember this slide.

Just got back, Green Thunder was working about 95% of the time. I went down it too many times to count , so did my 8 year old daughter!

Thank you! I was told there was a specialist suppose to work on it. I wonder why it keeps breaking down.
