Carnival Dream Meet and Mingle

Recommended Posts

Just off the Dream (about a week or so ago) and I have to say that Carnival did a GREAT job in setting up our Meet and Mingle. They had rolls, muffins, coffee, tea, juice and water. The CD was there along with a couple of other staff members.

You want to know who wasn't there? The 40+ people who signed up for it. Only 5 people showed up. Having the M&M on the first sea day (first full day) would have made more sense, but they held it on Friday, day 5 of the cruise. I sure hope attendance picks up. I, for one, enjoy the Meet and Mingles and I know others do too.

It's a shame that only 5 people showed up. I have been on 55 cruises and the "Meet & Mingle" was always a very enjoyable time on the cruise. Of course having it in the early day is too early since some people want to get comfortable to get used to being on the sea. I cant count how many nice people that I have had over all the cruises I've been on. The first time I went on a cruise was in 1976 and I have had some contacts to many friends I have made since then. I am getting greeting Xmas cards from several people and I "talk" to them right here on this spot. If you keep going on cruises in the future just let it slide and continue to go to the "Meet and Mingle". Thanks for your message and maybe others can see this and will have fun on their cruises.

Sorry to hear about the poor turn out! It is becoming the standard of these CC/CCL sponsored M&M's. Please read the sticky forum at the top of the CCL page to see other comments.

Curious? How were you informed of the date/time of the event? If it is typical, it was only in the Funtimes, in very small print! And the timing, late in the cruise is a BIG factor for previous CC cruisers used to Meet and Greets early in the cruise.

Don't get me wrong, we had a great CCL staff turnout (they outnumbered us) on our recent Magic cruise, but only 4 CC members out of 52 attended! The only notice we found was in the Funtimes, in very small print sandwiched between several other listings. And it was on a Port Day!

The CCL staff and snack setups however were outstanding.:)

I guess we are in the Baby Steps phase of this promising event!:)

The only times I've noted a GREAT turnout for the Meet-n-Mingle was when it was held on embarkation day! After that, people are busy doing other things! In any case, one of the reasons to hold a Meet-n-Mingle is so that you'll know your fellow poster/cruisers during the voyage. I still think the absolute best time for a meet-n-mingle is right after the life boat drill, on embarkation day.....

I couldn't agree more!

But, in my experience, the roll call self organized M&G at sail away has always been a "prelude", to a longer meeting (either BYOD/B or order from the waiter/waitress on the 1st sea day)

Although, we have had hosted and attended a few OBP's on the 1st sea day!:D:D

That being said, it is always a crap shoot as too how many CCL members attend either the Sail Away M&G, or the more organized M&G on the 1st sea day. I have seen a few as 2 or as many as 50 attend both events!:)

I personally hosted a Meet and Greet on the Dream a year or two ago and held it on the first full day (sea day). We had a GREAT turn out! This one was posted in the Fun Times in small print and I am guessing since it was so far into the cruise, no one was interested.

HOWEVER....

I did host a slot pull on this cruise and I could not have asked for a better turn out. We had 40 people show up. I had also met with Jo and Alex (Casino hosts) who were great and gave prizes for our group. We all had a great time!!

Some roll calls work out great with lots of participation and others just are a bust.

When people say they are coming to an event they should come.

You got that right! Once again, if the scheduled meeting is much beyond embarkation day, people get busy doing other things, and the Meet-n-Greet gets moved to the bottom of the list.

Think it depends on the roll call. Some people want to meet others and will join in, others have no interest and you will never see them.

We have made many cruising friends from roll calls that we will sail with repeatedly.

Who wants to go to a M&G at the end of a cruise? I attended one on NCL Getaway and it was packed. It was early in the cruise, so many mingling with each other. If it was later, I wouldn't even have bothered unless you want to meet people to say goodbye and how was your cruise.

I do find it strange that it was held on Day 5. Were the first days not sea days?

It seems to be a common problem with the new M&G by Carnival. It's not only late in the cruise, but it's only announced in small print within the Funtime lineup.

You need to let us know when you are cruising again!! We have a group of CC members who have sailed in late Nov/Dec for several years, and had great M&G's, and slot pulls....but...:(

Lately, since the rise of the web page page with no face?? RC's/Slot Pulls are not as popular on CC Roll Calls, and organized events?

What's up with that.....:confused::confused:

I have to agree 100%!:)

We usually say goodbye to the folks we met at sail away or 1st sea day M&G /CC/CCL-M&M on the last sea day or last day depending on the itinerary? Definitely not at a MEET AND GREET/MINGLE on the last day of the cruise.....kinda defeats the purpose don't ya think!:confused:

I went to the first M&M on my B2B cruise in April. I was disappointed. It seems the group from the popular social site I am not going to name, dominated the group. As a non <name your social site> member, I felt left out. I did not go to the one on the second week, due to the experience with the first.

It seemed the people who met through the social media site were already doing things and had plans.
