PelicanLvr Posted August 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2016 We plan to walk-off as early as possible in Venice and get a water taxi to an apartment we rented near St. Marks Square. Anyone had experience with walking-off carrying your luggage in Venice? How early could you leave? Where is the water taxi dock that serves the cruise ship terminal? How long does it take to walk from terminal to water taxi dock? After a cruise to all EU ports, are there any customs or immigration procedures when we return to Venice? Trying to plan a water taxi reservation and appreciate the info. PL

PL we just got off in Venice yesterday morning There was a memo that due to new custom regulations carrying off your own bags was no longer permitted and all bags had to be left outside room to be collected the day before Actually it made disembarkation much easier as there were no crowded elevators full with people and their baggage all trying to get off together we had to choose coloured baggage labels a couple of days previously which corresponded to your chosen disembarkation time .This was with NCL not sure how other companies handle it the walk to the water taxi dock depends on how many ships are in port that day and where your ship berths you could have as many as 3 ship lengths to walk along the pier until you reach the water taxi dock but it is well labelled Our cruise went outside the EU so cant answer your question about customs
Host Jacquelyn Posted August 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2016 What ship are you on? The answers may vary depending on ship. We were on Splendour 2 years ago and walked off in Venice by 7:15 am.
PelicanLvr Posted August 4, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Thanks Jacquelyn for your reply. We are on the Celebrity Constellation and dock on Oct 10, 2016 at 6:45 AM. I posted on the Celebrity Forum, but not much response as it's a pretty specific question. Trying to get timing right for a water taxi reservation and check in at apartment. Venice sure does present some pretty unique transportation questions! Thanks to Jacquelyn and all the "Hosts" for their efforts here at CC. Host Jacquelyn Posted August 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) Thanks PelicanLvr! Perhaps you can ask on one of the summer roll calls, and maybe a member can report back after their trip. Another suggestion could be to reserve the water taxi at a certain time, and then email the taxi company from onboard after checking with Guest services or a concierge if the timing yiu arranged is possible. Also, I would guess that many of these water taxi companies deal with cruise passengers often, so they may have an idea as well Edited August 5, 2016 by Host Jacquelyn
mapleleaves Posted August 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2016 If you look at the enlarged map, you'll see the water taxi station. Contact hour cruise line in order to find out which berth your ship is using. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/transportation-from-stazione-marittima.htm
