One Day Cruise

Next May we are taking a one cruise on the Ruby Princess from Vancouver down to Seattle.

 

So, I am wondering if the special Restaurants, such as the Crown Grill, will open? Also, if any ships services will be curtailed due to short time period?

Did the same cruise in May.

The specialty restaurants were open.

We found the service lacking as the staff looked completely exhausted.

Many pre-nup bridal and groom parties with lots of drinking going on throughout the ship. Didn't really bother us, just a different vibe.

As long as you weren't planning to sign up for Chef's Table or the Ultimate Ship's Tour, or attend the Captains Circle Party or avail yourself of the formal night Elite/Suite perks, you shouldn't notice much else missing.

Having to turn the ship over after one-day sailings has got to be a pain for the stateroom attendants!

We've done many one nighters - lots of the usual stuff is available - makes for a fun night out! We have 6 more booked & looking at some on the other lines that go out of Vancouver & Seattle.

 

dining room lunch on boarding

 

dining room or specialty for dinner

 

lots of shows

 

Platinum/Elite/Suite cocktail lounge

 

if you are Elite - mini bar set-up, upgraded toiletries, loyalty OBC

 

any returning passenger that would be invited to a returning cruiser party gets a coupon for a free drink - any value beverage seems to be okay

 

I've also heard of others getting their stock OBC & Military OBC

 

opportunity to purchase FCC or future cruises with whatever onboard booking bonus is available

 

& the biggest +++ for many one credit for another cruise - double credit if solo & triple if solo in a suite :D

 

most of the south bound have not had the casino open, but we have seen it open on the north bound

You could get elite status by booking 5 one day cruises solo in a suite.

 

But at the price of a suite you'd probably never get enough value out of the benefits to be anywhere near worthwhile.

Ref Diamond International. No, I would not want one, in fact I could not pay the wife enough to go to one of their briefings. They do seem to be on just about every ship owned by Princess. So, I was just wondering if they would pass up a 1 day cruise.

Personally my two least favorite days of a cruise are the first and last, not exactly enough time to relax and escape completely. So a one day cruise, with embarkation-debarkation and customs as a bonus? Not A Chance :eek:

We try to be at the embarkation port as early as possible - first in line means through security & check in quick & easy.

 

Next morning we have a nice breakfast in the dining room & often we'll just wait in the atrium until the crowds have cleared. Then walk right off. Customs is rarely an issue.

 

If we board in Vancouver we usually clear US Customs with check in so when we disembark in Seattle it's just a quick pause to hand in the form. Same thing if we board in Seattle - barely stop walking as we hand in our form in Vancouver - they don't even look at our passports!

 

Usually no real luggage - unless we add on a few days in Seattle!

 

It's amazing how much fun you can fit into these quickies!

 

Did we mention the duty-free sales?? There's usually a LARGE table of assorted bottles of booze for great prices & the Elite 10% shop discount applies!

If I am reading this correctly - does that mean I could attain Elite status after 15 one day cruises? Unbelievable!!!! Not that it concerns me as I am working towards Elite status with 122 days after my next cruise. By the way, I hate that terminology 'Elite' status and I wish they would change it to some other precious metal (Diamond, Sapphire or anything else). In this world of ours we do not need elitism and all its meanings.:)

That comment has to take the cake as to ignorance and thoughtless....

 

The crew works twice as hard on turn around day and added duties are given on that day also... so, that means they have to do this twice in two days....

Casino is hit or miss - it's discretion of the manager whether they open for a few hours or not.

We booked several one nighters to get to Elite. We would book two cabins but both stay in one. We immediately let our cabin steward know and we did not even remove the luggage mat from the bed. Only thing we needed was the life vest for muster. I know many booked two cabins and hopefully this helped lighten the load for the hard working stewards on these quick double day turnarounds. ps..we always left auto gratuities on both cabins.

Actually, you could do it in 5 if you sailed solo in a suite!

I suppose what I was leading to was that you would be really doing it on the cheap if you did 15 x 1 day cruises in an inside cabin to get to Elite status. I would think your 5 one day cruises in a mini suite would be a fair bit more expensive. Maybe we should start a thread for people to advise how much it cost them in cruises to attain Elite status.:)

:). You are correct in that 15 one-night cruises in an inside traveling double occupancy might be the least expensive, however 5 solo in a suite would be the fastest. If you traveled solo in an inside, it would take you 8 cruises, which may or may not be the least expensive depending on the fares involved, the % rates of the single supplements and amounts of port charges as they are not doubled for solos (neither are gratuities, at least in the US). As you might be able to guess, I have given this some thought, and decided that it just isn't worth all the embarkations and next-day disembarkations involved, for me at least.

Just finished your live from on the Ruby. Your Photo's were outstanding, I just hope mine will be as good.

 

Also, showed your report to my Wife who found it really interesting also.

 

Now, we just have to wait until next May when we will be on the Ruby for our first B2B, Vancouver to Seattle, then Seattle to Alaska and back to Seattle.

They're smart folks. They know that the odds of impressing someone enough to get them to come back again and again, to then earn a cash tip, go way down when there's only one night of service. I think there's also just a different demographic of passenger on the one-nighters; many of those cruisers are, shall we say, cheap, so the hopes of an extra tip go out the window.

Boy do have this right. One day cruise for me it's too much of a hassle.
