Joe817 Posted January 6, 2020 #27 Share Posted January 6, 2020 For those that aren't familiar with the policy of bringing knives on board: Prohibited items: " Knives, scissors and open razors with blades longer than four inches. (Recreational dive knives are allowed, but must be held in the custody of the Guest Services Manager or Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise. Large scissors used by scrapbook and quilting enthusiasts are at times permitted with prior notification from the Security Services Department, but are held on board in the same manner as dive knives.)" Here's the whole "Prohibited Items" FAQ: https://www.carnival.com/help#section-3 FWIW, our last cruise was on the Dream out of Galveston last July. When we went through security, and I had to empty my pockets, my pocket knife was in the basket, the security person looked at it, and gave my stuff back to me without batting an eye. I carried my pocket knife with me on the entire cruise, including Cozumel, with no problems whatsoever.
Organized Chaos Posted January 6, 2020 #28 Share Posted January 6, 2020 Acknowledging that this thread is over 3 years old and things change sometimes, it seems like the answer is, it's a crap shoot. It may be taken even though it's technically allowed. Some people had their pocket knives or multi-tools confiscated by terminal security, who are non-Carnival employees, and some confiscated by Carnival security after returning to the ship at a port of call. The Carnival security members should know company policy, so if they tried taking a pocket knife that was clearly allowed, I'd definitely fight it. If terminal security want to take it, well then, you can argue policy until your blue in the face, they can still say no. This seems to apply to a lot of items that are allowed and brought through terminal security. Depending on which terminal it is and the people working that day, some people get hassled for things that are allowed. In the end, I wish we could see more consistency in regards to terminal security personnel instead of being at the mercy of someone who feels like being a hardass that day.
