Playing Cards or Games

We are traveling with another couple and we LOVE to play cards and games. We are not quite players and we like our cocktails so where would you suggest to do that on the Dream? Would we find tables outside somewhere that would be suitable or do we need to find a bar?

On the spirit I saw a lot of couple playing games on the lido deck buffet area after the dinner crowd was gone... they had the whole place to themselves...

 

We were on the Glory and they had shut the library. So the 4 of us went to the very back of the buffet area to play Monopoly. We were not very quiet. But people and even the staff were hanging around watching and having a good time.

 

This is what we do. Take our drinks and have a blast in the buffet late at night after it is closed. We are by no means quiet and the staff seems to enjoy the the good time we are having!

Please do not play in the buffet area during meal times. I can't count how many times I and others have wandered around looking for a table to eat our meal, while people were playing cards or games during breakfast or lunch.

If a fellow cruiser and their family aren't doing anything against the hosts policy and it annoys you then it's your problem. I really tried to say this in a nicer way, but I cannot.

 

I shouldn't matter if someone who's occupying a table on the lido deck or anywhere else is eating a meal or organizing their button collection to you, me or anyone else.

 

I've never been aboard a ship where there weren't tables available at prime time buffet hours. We did experience a fellow cruiser stop by our table after we were done with breakfast burritos and ask if we were finished. No, we aren't as we linger at the table for an hour or so after a run and breakfast talking about our days plans.

we play dominoes and cards in that area but do wait until after lunch. It's a nice way to spend the day, especially on rainy sea days.

I have to agree. During high traffic times the space should be used for its main purpose, enjoying a meal. It is very annoying g to see a single individual sitting at a 4 top reading by a window just reading or lounging while others are trying to find a seat to enjoy a meal.

 

Perhaps that's just life in a "me" based culture.

Sorry, I can't agree. Please move to a less populated area of the ship for chats. People using the buffet really need a table to eat at, and sometimes they are at a premium. After the buffet is closed, enjoy! I think you are just being selfish.

We are total "buffet" table hogs. We often travel with a large family group and "everyone" tends to have different "schedules", so invariably the first few at the buffet find a table and we are joined on and off by others during breakfast and lunch. We are grazers...small plates, and we sit and enjoy our leisure meals, part of our vacation experience and our chance to visit over a cup of coffee with family members from different parts of the country who we don't see often. Sometimes that does mean one person sits at the table reading for a bit while waiting for others to join them.

 

If that titles us entitled, so be it.

On the Dream, you may want to try the Ocean Plaza area on deck 5. They have tables both inside and outside that would suit playing cards and games. There is a coffee shop right there, and the taste bar if you're playing in the evening and the casino bar is right around the corner.

When we were on the dream last year, we played cards in the atrium area (?) near the guest services desk-- they have chairs set up with a table between them and you should be able to accommodate 4 people there. Also, there is a bar right there so you don't have to go far to get a drink :)

No problem, but if the place is full, and your sitting by yourself, expect company. We will sit with you, eat, and enjoy your company too.

A seat can always be found. At work in the cafe, sometimes people are reading. Sometimes folks are on the phone. Sometimes eating. It doesn't matter to me what a person is doing at a table. I can find a seat even if it takes a few minutes. I guess folks should scarf down their food then get right up and leave since the tables are for eating only. Don't let your food digest, nothing. Just get up and leave.

 

The OP asked a simple question about playing cards and the thread turned into a chastising about when and where they can do it. Don't assume the worst. All of a sudden their slap dead at the buffet right at peak times with the only table free. We travel as a group and can always find a seat. If you go to the buffet at prime times, it may be difficult and nobody needs to be playing cards or table games for that to be the case.

We did the same thing last year. We also played in the library a couple of times while killing time right before supper.
