Kittyonions Posted August 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2016 Has anyone used the company Shorebee for organising excursions whilst in port at Livorno. We are trying to book a day tour to Florence/Pisa, but finding it difficult to make a reservation on the website. Can anyone suggest any alternative company we could use. Many thanks. kevinyork Posted August 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2016 We have used cruisingexcursions.com before and they were fine however their prices seem to be creeping no upwards. I have to say Livorno to Pisa/Florence was one place we went with a ships 'on your own' trip due to the distance and wanting the security of returning on time. sapphire4 Posted August 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2016 We used the ships excursion also due to the distance from the ship and not having previously visited Florence. We had half a days walking tour and the afternoon on our own. It was excellent and allowed us to do a bit of shopping, a bit of lunch and explore on our own. We did get lost at one point which was a bit worrying. We also wanted to make sure we got back to the ship in time. Florence is amazing. Enjoy!! We've done the 'Florence on your own' ship's trip on several occasions. Perhaps it's worth having the guided tour bit first if you haven't been to Florence before it is a compact city and there is plenty to see for a whole day as sapphire says. Pisa we did DiY using the train. It's only about 15 minutes away from Livorno - quite a different proposition to getting to Florence which is more distant and can be subject to heavy traffic or by train it involves changing trains and the timing we felt was a bit risky at least for us as although we are fairly confident DiYers we are nevertheless rather cautious about what we think we are prepared to tackle independently. We spent a leisurely day in Pisa - there is far more to see in Miracle Square than just the Tower - and enjoyed it. If you really want to do both in one day I'd be tempted to go with an organised tour too - there's a lot to pack in and if there are delays it might be advisable to be on the ship's tour. But whatever you decide - have a great time - Florence is a beautiful city. (Btw I did think on two separate visits we'd been targeted by pickpockets - once my handbag zip was opened as we stood in-front of the Baptistry - so do take care.) jeanlyon Posted August 14, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2016 I would say you can't possibly do Pisa and Florence in one day and Pisa is very easy on the train.
Kittyonions Posted August 16, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks everyone for your comments regarding excursions to Florence/Pisa.Kevinyork, tried your suggestion of cruisingexcursions.com, but they were more expensive than P and O. So, having taken everyone's advice,we have booked on the ship excursion, and appreciate the help we have been given.

Will be doing Pisa on own with P and O beginning September. Pisa was superb but deserves its own slot and plan to go beyond tower this time.
