Cell phone while going down MS river

I am cruising on Dream in Sept. Will I be able to use regular cell and data services as long as I am on river? I know once "out" to switch to airplane to avoid charges.

Yes all the way down the river you have signal. Figure a good 6 hours have you leave port you can use it. I have Verizon so I can only speak for them but I have seen pretty much everyone on their phones especially coming back once we hit the river.

We have ATT for our service and had cellular and data service until we got to the gulf. I don't know if I had to, but I turned off wifi so that my phone didn't connect to the ship wifi, then went to airplane mode after we left the river.

The last land based cell tower near the river is at Venice La, so once you enter southwest pass you'll start getting spotty service or switch to cellular@sea.

 

I usually turn it off as we enter southwest pass, near Pilot Town when the first pilot swap happens.

Good to know. I have cruised from NOLA 3 times and never really paid attention. I turn the phone onto airplane mode when the whistle sounds or muster drill is underway- basically once we start moving. I probably will anyway, because I am afraid I would forget to turn it off. I also did not take my phone off the ship in Key West and San Juan even though I knew I could use it because I was afraid I would lose it- Even though we were just taking a trolley tour and hanging out in Key West which is nothing more exotic than I would do at home.

Left ours on for several hours and than when we went to dinner put it on.

 

Heading back must have been on for about three hours and never roaming on Verizon

You might want to try trusting yourself to avoid those fears when you go outside your routines.

I always have service the whole way down the river. It can get spotty towards the end of the river, but you should have solid service for the first 6-7 hours.

We always had a signal going down the river, but that was with Verizon. We switched to Sprint late last year so don't know if we will get the same coverage....

Actually when returning to NOLA I got full cell service at 2 AM. Because I know I was thing that I had cell service and no to call at 2 AM. Did get my e-mails and Internet
