WARNING Northern Cruisers!

Recommended Posts

Today, October 29th, 2005, is a sad day for many New Englanders.

Yes, today it has snowed for the first time, and some may get up to two inches of the white stuff.

This winter weather event may cause some cruises to become anxious and think of fun in the Carribean, including swimming with sting rays, jet skiing, and tanning. This is a condition known as "Cruise-Deprivation Syndrome."

It is recommended that ALL northern cruisers close their windows and do not listen to ANY weather reports.

Thank You.

I closed my windows last week when we had over 72" of snow on MT Washington up here in New Hampshire. Spent most of today preparing for the long cold snowy season. The good news is it's only 2 months to our next cruise!

I read that story in the newspaper! Too early. LOL

Thanks. They're already skiing at Sugarloaf and the nearby mountains of NH. Glad to hear the snow stayed in Boston today. The good news is that my garage is almost cleaned up enough to put both cars in and my snowblower will be back from the shop soon. The bad news is no cruises till at least next winter.

We got our first snow here in interior Alaska at the end of September. The lows this weekend are in the -5 f range, and the highs are somewhere around +10f. The snow will be gone by May though. DW and I are getting out at Christmas to Orlando, followed by a short cruise on Enchantment.

And people wonder why I am so very disappointed in the change to Canada/New England for Jewel of the Seas next fall!

Why do I feel this is going to be an unbearably long winter......AGAIN!

Yeah, I really like it when a Bermuda cruise is diverted to New England. If anyone aboard has the nerve to complain people on these boards say to suck it up.

When I get on a ship I have no intention of taking a winter coat with me.

I agree. I loved the Bermuda/Caribbean combo. This was the first time I've seen Bermuda and the Caribbean combined on an itinerary. I don't understand why the NY ships don't offer a stop in Bermuda on their eastern caribbean cruises either. Great itinerary, great ship, and great sailing from New England during foliage season.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to see the northeast by ship when it is cold outside. That would be a wonderful cruise during the summer months. Can't beat it. I much prefer driving to see the leaves in color--especially in Vermont.

Another disappointed NE cruiser.

We didn't get any snow in SE CT, but the NE part of the state did get snow flurries yesterday. Actually the NW corner (Litchfield County) had an inch of snow on the ground on Wed night. Heard Killington got a foot and a half the other day. Early ski season.

Cheer up... It's New England the weather will change. Today is supposed to be in the mid 60s and near 70 for Halloween.

And I have just 2 more weeks before our next ship sails !!!!

I used to live in Connecticut. Went to college in upstate New York. Moved back to CT. Cold. Snow. Gray. Falling on my tuchis when I'd slip on the ice. Chipping ice off the car to get the door open. Snow tires. Winter, just like you describe...sad. Winter is when you need the Caribbean. To a New Englander, Tropical Depression is the way you feel when you NEED the tropics and you're still within radio reception of a Bruins home game...

So let me ask you...since you still live up there (it is quite nice in Georgia most of the year)...why is your Mariner cruise in JUNE...do you NEED it in JUNE? I seem to recall June being kinda nice. January, February...thats when you need the Mariner.

You know I'm right. If you've already scheduled this winter (big mistake) and can't move that Marniner cruise up...time to get workin' on winter '07.

I can't stop saying it. Wow, I can't believe I will be toasty warm today, and I am not even on a cruiseship. Time to get out my sunglasses and catch some rays.

Time to book my winter cruise.

If only I could jump aboard Jewel of the Seas for her repositioning cruise on Tuesday and not come back until Spring. Dream on. Winter is coming and there is nothing we can do except enjoy every last minute of sunshine and temps above freezing. I think I need some more Halloween candy to make my day even better.

Go PATS.

Funny this came up here. Yesterday my mom called me from Boston Harbor on their New England cruise all excited. It was snowing. They had snow on their balcony. They had also run into some rough seas previous where things broke in the room. She told me lots of passengars could not handle it and stayed in their rooms. She drank tea and hit the casino. She told me they were having a great time and wished we could have done this one with them.

We do not live where it snows so it is exciting to watch.

Hmmm....here on the frozen tundra near lambeau Field it is quite pleasant. We are still waiting for the first snow flakes of the season. I was actually golfing this morning but still thinking of my upcoming cruise on the Jewel this February. I know it won't be long before the cold winter weather gets here.

June is not always warm in CT, and if you lived here you would know that the water is very cold until August. This year it was very cold and rainy the first two weeks of June, then it jumped from 50 to 90 degrees at the end of June.

I take two weeks of vacation in June every year and head to SC where the ocean is about 80. We went to Block Island in August this year and the water was only 65 degrees. That to me is not inviting.

I cruise in the fall and winter, and take my beach vacation in June.

12 more days til I cruise again.... Looking to book one for the winter too.

Trying to extend summer as long as possible..... Because winter is coming.

OK, OK, everyone! I will gladly trade the unbearable heat and humidity that is prevalent here in Alabama 10 months out of the year for a little snow!! I'm originally from Colorado, so snow is part of my heritage! And...I miss it! Geez, down here (heah), they turn the heat on at work if it gets below 70 degrees, and I still have my A/C on at home! I've been wearing shorts to work since March, and figure I can finally put on a pair of jeans around December. Maybe. :D
