pokerpro5 Posted September 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2016 Hi everyone. Usually I am well versed on policy, but this one is stumping me a bit, and I know that these regulations change so often. I don't want to call NCL and ask, because you get incorrect answers from them about 50% of the time. I am taking a closed-loop cruise to and from Puerto Rico this year. That is, it begins in Puerto Rico, goes to various other countries, and returns to Puerto Rico. I have a passport, as does the other adult traveling with me. However, we have two kids (one 12, one 6) who do not have passports, but do have original birth certificates. This was okay in 2013 from NOLA, but will this be okay from Puerto Rico? Has anyone done this cruise recently with kids w/out passports? Please let me know. Thanks.
Rare sparks1093 Posted September 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2016 (edited) We cruised on the Gem in 2014 with our 17 and 18 year old and they used their birth certificates and learners permits to board, we had a family friend along and she used her birth cert/drivers license and DW and I used our EDLs. The kids you are traveling with are under 16 so all they need is a birth certificate and yes, this includes cruises to and from Puerto Rico. cb at sea Posted September 2, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2016 No passport is needed at all. Over 16 has to have a photo ID in addition to BC...under 16 does NOT.
zqvol Posted September 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2016 No passports needed but if both parents are not going a letter from the absent parent, allowing the children to go on the cruise, should be taken with you.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 3, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2016 From your post, it appears that the kid's other parent is not traveling with you. Please check on requirements for them to travel with you. The cruise line will not allow you to board with out the correct paperwork.
