Regent compares itself to Silversea and Seabourn

Trying here not to knock Regent - a few people may really like having their air fares and excursions included, but the majority who might book one of the luxury lines are pretty savvy people, who probably like included drinks and tips, and maybe like to have an optional add-on for flights and transfers, but really do not want excursions and flights to be included. Obviously Regent's prices are going to be higher; whether they make any more profit per passenger than the other lines I do not know, but it is understandably a real effort to persuade people that their prices are not too high.

Hesitate to direct you to another line, but certainly one of them is IMO superior to Regent in almost every respect.;)

Interesting that this thread is ongoing at present. We had a discussion with a local TA yesterday - one that we do not use at present but who specialises in the luxury cruise market

Her opinion was that both Seabourn and Silversea are "a step up from Regent"

If we find the right itineraries we will probably give one or other, or both, a try

We like the truly 'all-inclusive' nature of Regent; paying up front and having no account to settle at the end of the cruise is attractive to us

We find their prices for upgrading to Business Class are normally very competitive and if you want to arrange your own air you can always ask Regent for a credit (albeit the credits tend to be a bit mean)

We agree that most luxury line cruisers are well-informed enough to make their own price comparisons.........................but price isn't everything; value for money and service levels are far more important

This used to be the case but recently I have got the impression that they are trying to make a profit on their Business Class upgrade prices. On a Far East trip for next year we have booked our flights direct with BA because we could get these far cheaper that the upgrade cost and we then got £700 pp Air Credit from Regent.

I agree entirely but regret that Regent is slipping back on this.

Interesting comment by your TA as Silversea tends to come in last in polls (not that I necessarily believe in polls). I do understand that Silversea is more popular than Regent in the U.K. as most of their passengers are from there (check out their board and you will see what I mean). We have sailed Silversea three times and find it quite similar to Regent. The formal dress code is a bit difficult for us but the service is on par with Regent. We prefer the food on Regent. Silversea has a couple of itineraries that Regent does not have which we enjoy and we really love two of their ships (and strongly dislike the others).

lincslady - I am one Regent cruiser that does not like included excursions. However, I understand that I am in the minority. We would love to see an opt out option for excursions as, IMO, they are in the same category as air and hotel -- items not provided by Regent and take place off of the ship.

In terms of air credits, one of our future cruises has an air credit of $6,000/person which we find quite generous.

I certainly do not disagree that at the errors on the website and brochure should not have happened. I'm not blaming Mike Moore for this one because his staff probably input information that they were given by another department.
