Duanerice1 Posted September 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2016 We used to take the cash in the casino then shop in port. The prices more than made up for the 5% service charge. We have $550 for our next cruise and will upgrade my wife to the premium beverage package, she'll also use some in the casino and we'll buy a few trinkets or a shirt, etc that we wouldn't normally buy. Beanb41 Posted September 9, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 9, 2016 Depending on the amount we stock up with perfume for the wife and trinkets for the kids and grandkids. We would like to take advantage of some of the booze on offer but having to fly home from everywhere the weight is an issue. We only have $50 for our cruise next month but $470 for next years cruise so expenditure this year will be minimal.
2theship Posted September 9, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 9, 2016 If we can't think of anything else, I'll pick up a cosmetic item that I would normally buy at a department store at home. The prices are the same and I don't have to pay sales tax. Plus, it's OBC so I'm not spending anything at all!
sloopsailor Posted September 13, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) By not having it and having the money in my pocket instead so I do not feel I have to spend it:D So, you refuse all OBC benefits that you may qualify for from a sales promotion or TA bonus?:confused: I would never purchase OBC. But it will be a cold day in hell when I refuse OBC given as a perk. Edited September 14, 2016 by sloopsailor

Rare cruisestitch Posted September 14, 2016 #15 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Quoting my own post: Now that there are so many programs in placing giving non-refundable OBC, and we can no longer take this out of the casino in cash, I have come up with this list of things to spend OBC on, since we see so many questions about this on Cruise Critic: I'll make the list alphabetical, so it will be easy to add any items I have forgotten. CAL7 Posted September 14, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Please explain about using OBC in the casino. We were planning on taking our OBC as chips, then gambling just a bit and cashing in (as in real money) the balance. Does celebrity prevent this? Rare cruisestitch Posted September 14, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 14, 2016 When you go to the casino you will get specially marked chips. They cannot be cashed in. If you win, the chips you win will not be marked and can be cashed in. Specifically, say you have $100 in OBC, and get chips worth that You gamble $10 and lose, and have your remaining chips in hand. You cannot go to the cashier and trade in those chips for cash. You continue to gamble the remaining chips, and win $50. That amount you can get in cash at the cashier's booth.
