Wheelchairs @ overseas passenger teminal

Hi all

We're heading off in November on Voyager of the seas and was wondering if anyone has any idea about how we go about organising a wheelchair at the OPT for my mother in case she has need of it. She suffers badly from Sciatica and the long lines and waiting times will not help her condition.

Thanks

Lisa

If you think your mum will require assistance while in line before she even boards I could imagine she may need it on the cruise. My suggestion is, if she doesn't already own one she should hire a wheelie walker which folds up and take it with her. She can then walk around and use it as a seat as well.

I know that P&O and Princess have wheelchair-assisted boarding. They supply the wheelchairs and someone to push it, escorting the passenger all the way to their cabin.

I realise that this won't help you as you are on Royal Caribbean, but someone else will undoubtedly be able to answer your question for that ship. If wheelchair assistance is available, your mum should not hesitate to ask for it when you arrive at the OPT. They would usually allow one or even a couple of your family members to go with her.

For Royal Caribbean you will need to complete a Guest Special Needs Form which you can download from their site. If you cannot access this give their Accessibility phone number a call 1800 754 500.

My 16 year old daughter travels with a wheelchair and the service we receive from the cruise lines is excellent.

If you feel mum might need some help I would buy or hire a folding chair.

My daughter also takes a Pride Go Go Electric Chair which Is fantastic and what I can highly recommend for those with mobility problems that like to cruise.

No problem with wheelchair assisted pax with Royal. Just tell whoever is at the entrance to the terminal that you require a wheelchair and they will organise it. We normally have a "dedicated " check in area for "assisted" pax which was up on the third (customs) level (that may change this season but will not affect you) and depending on how many are in your group you should all be able to check in together. Occasionally there can be a bit of a delay with wheelchair assists if there are a lot of them at the same time and obviously only a limited amount of chairs and pushers but normally no problem.
