kah1829 Posted September 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2016 We are going on the 8 day southern Caribbean Cruise on the Sunshine later this year. We would like to give our teenager some freedom on the ship but still want to be able to communicate with him. He doesn't have Facebook so messenger is out. I believe texting will result in a huge phone bill. Any suggestions? He has an iPhone but my husband and I have Android phones. Thank you! firemanbobswife Posted September 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2016 What about Yahoo Messenger or What'sApp? Both can be used by different types of phones.
bury me at sea Posted September 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2016 We make a general outline of each day the previous evening. Then we use post-it notes on the mirror. It's a contained space so we also run into each other a lot. Never had a problem.
Schoifmom Posted September 14, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Sunshine has the HUB app. We used it with the chat feature last week and it worked great. $5 for the entire cruise for each person.
kah1829 Posted September 14, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Thank you! We will download the hub app before we go - that's exactly what we are looking for! I really appreciate your help. Sent from my D6708 using Forums mobile app
firemanbobswife Posted September 14, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Thank you! We will download the hub app before we go - that's exactly what we are looking for! I really appreciate your help. Sent from my D6708 using Forums mobile app I have seen mixed reviews on the chat feature of the HUB App. Quite a few people have reported that messages were never received or received hours later. If it were my son, I wouldn't count on that and go ahead and spring for the Social Media Package and get one of the other apps that allow chat. At least with them you can verify they got the message. HillBilly Bob Posted September 15, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2016 ..... still want to be able to communicate with him. Any suggestions? Sent from my D6708 using Forums mobile app Every cabin is equipped with a telephone and voice mail service. Set up your PIN number and you can leave and retrieve messages from any other phone on the ship. This is a convenient and NO COST service that most overlook. That is what we have used in the past with CCL.
serene56 Posted September 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2016 Ships are not that large where you need a roaming messenger. Go over the activity sheet together-- highlight where you will be at any given time have a meeting time set up-- example what time to be in the cabin to get ready for dinner. (clocks are on the decks by the elevators) Highlight his activity sheet so you know where he will be/ IF that changes have him call the room and leave a voice mail. cb at sea Posted September 15, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2016 Have your teen give you his plans at breakfast (or before he leaves in the morning)... Tell him where you will be....make plans to meet for lunch, and have him COME TO YOU if his plans change. SEEING him in person is more reliable than texting or a phone call....you will actually SEE him! Talking to the others in your party is amazingly effective! Keeping track of teens on a ship is not difficult. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ladygal4.4 Posted September 16, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) Pay for the social package for you and him on both phones. I dare say he will want to keep up with friends back home. Plus you can message him on Facebook messenger Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited September 16, 2016 by ladygal4.
Julz226 Posted September 27, 2016 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2016 How about walkie talkies? I've read that Carnival allows them onboard their ships, and a 3 pack of Motorola Talkabouts will run about $70.
