Sunshine communication onboard?

We are going on the 8 day southern Caribbean Cruise on the Sunshine later this year. We would like to give our teenager some freedom on the ship but still want to be able to communicate with him. He doesn't have Facebook so messenger is out. I believe texting will result in a huge phone bill. Any suggestions? He has an iPhone but my husband and I have Android phones. Thank you!

Thank you! We will download the hub app before we go - that's exactly what we are looking for! I really appreciate your help.

I have seen mixed reviews on the chat feature of the HUB App. Quite a few people have reported that messages were never received or received hours later. If it were my son, I wouldn't count on that and go ahead and spring for the Social Media Package and get one of the other apps that allow chat. At least with them you can verify they got the message.

Every cabin is equipped with a telephone and voice mail service. Set up your PIN number and you can leave and retrieve messages from any other phone on the ship. This is a convenient and NO COST service that most overlook. That is what we have used in the past with CCL.

Ships are not that large where you need a roaming messenger. Go over the activity sheet together-- highlight where you will be at any given time

have a meeting time set up-- example what time to be in the cabin to get ready for dinner. (clocks are on the decks by the elevators)

Highlight his activity sheet so you know where he will be/ IF that changes have him call the room and leave a voice mail.

Have your teen give you his plans at breakfast (or before he leaves in the morning)... Tell him where you will be....make plans to meet for lunch, and have him COME TO YOU if his plans change. SEEING him in person is more reliable than texting or a phone call....you will actually SEE him!

Talking to the others in your party is amazingly effective!

I agree. Keeping track of teens on a ship is not difficult.
